Meandering plot, worst kiss scene ever, and maximum neurotic energy...all whittled down into 9 (8), 3-5 minute episodes. Yet it is still cute and funny, though a bit weird and quirky. I really dislike myself for enjoying this, yet I can't seem to stop. 2015 must have been an interesting year in drama-land!!
she’s the friend that everyone secretly hates for being weird. The other actors and actresses were laughing…
Wow, after seeing how mistreatment and bullying almost destroyed Zhao Lusi, here you are being a first class jerk! It must be amazing to be so perfect ...so full of kindness! ~end sarcasm~ While you sit here being the little keyboard thug you aspire to be, and in spite of anyone else's laughter, she turns out great performance after great performance and is a multi-talented actor/entertainer. Whether comedic, dramatic or anything in between, she has proven many times that she is an amazing talent who can play many different roles with success. She is a star idol! So if they really were laughing at her, that's fine as her being a bigger, actual star, she was closer to the stage and they were seated behind her..."annoying voice" and all! There is nothing worse than people who pretend to be your friend, but stab you in the back! So instead of worrying about any of those things you ended your shabby little comment with, perhaps focus on the fact that you think being a fake, phony, cowardly friend is an acceptable life choice! Choose better! Do better! Regards!
This was a very cute drama that was without a lot of "melodrama". Beautifully shot, with very low-key, easy characters. There are only 2 episodes and it had a little bit of everything in it...a bit of comedy, romance, and even a dream sequence or two to boot. Again, it's only 2 episodes so I wasn't expecting perfection and I think the actors definitely delivered on their respective characters with the material they had to work with. Cliche, maybe...but it was still a relaxing watch. I really quite enjoyed this!
Gritty, raw, fast-paced, with a thrilling storyline that keeps you on the edge of your seat, what is seriously going on with this low rating. This drama is a wild ride and it has only been 2 episodes! MDL....why?!?!
Episode 17...that scene on the steps with the two MLs was a masterclass in raw emotion. Poor ZYZ, I can't even imagine the heartbreak in always saving those around you knowing you are the reason they need to be saved. This show/story just gets better and better with each episode!
Jiang Shao Peng looks and acts like Wonwoo of SVT hahahaha
OMG! Now I can't "unsee" it. Lol He also looks like Mingi of ATEEZ when he does that little head tilt like when he came out of the shower in episode 2!
I have been holding back commenting on this drama because I do agree with almost everything you stated to a certain…
But isn't that clamor and sweat that dances between hedonism and fetishization that runs throughout all of his works a key to his own style, the key to his aesthetic. I think his work is not just a reflection of the characters themselves, but also the audience that views them. You have to admit that whether writing or directing, he is always bombastic, yet his characterizations are completely direct. For instance, this character is good, yet flawed, or this character is bad, yet engaging, etc. He let's you know who's on base and then takes you on a wild ride with their story. That, in and of itself, is a challenging process, especially when working with other people's material.
You also have to admit (well not really :) that for a director to portray a vision, the actors themselves are the key. As you pointed out earlier, Chen Du Ling's portrayal is stiff. She is beautiful and talented, but she is also a reactionary actress. She reacts to whoever is in the scene with her and the better the actor, the better response she will give. When she is in the scene and just standing watching other's interact, she is almost frozen with a blank expression. Whereas Cheng Xiao can sit without making a sound and you can literally feel her character's sadness, anxiety, frustration, and pain in the way she holds her body, her stoic expression.
But I digress, I will say that I don't know that he is refusing to challenge himself so much as leaning into what is commercially viable and putting his spin on it.
I just finished the 7 first eps. A drama typically in the style of Guo Jing Min. In term of directing, gorgeous…
I have been holding back commenting on this drama because I do agree with almost everything you stated to a certain point...superficial - YES, simplistic - YES, "adventurous, glamorous and with some comedy" - again, all YES, but I am often finding that not everything needs to be that deep. Lol
In the first episode, it opened up into this drab, gray setting that I fully expected to carry throughout, but the cinematographer has done an amazing job and is obviously a master of color grading, using the lower level lighting and switching up in each scene to highlight the amazing pops of color to emphasize each actor in a way that brings to life their characters in the various scenes. The costume designer is no less talented, because whether evil, good, or in between, they all look fabulous...glamorous. There are surprising elements and some actually very good acting on the part of most of the actors in this drama. In each episode, I am finding more little gems, or aspects of this drama that I like because I accept it for what it is...and they keep pushing the envelope a little further as we get to know each character better. I try to follow the story as it is and leave preconceptions of what it should be out the window.
I don't think this drama was meant to reinvent the wheel. I think it is just Big, BEAUTIFUL fun. The story is engaging and quite relatable/enjoyable to almost everyone out there looking for a good time. The writing is crisp, funny, and meant for commercial success...and I am fine with that. The cast...THE CAST is giving me a complex because everyone is so otherworldly beautiful...if they introduce one more hot villain/hero I will swoon! They started out with Neo Hou, who is like the ultimate with his big ol', pretty eyes, and then just went insane with stacking the deck with more beautiful people...beautiful people who are giving their all with the material they are working with.
It's a rolling good time, and if you can accept that you can enjoy the story! If you are looking for a deep, existential journey of redemption for a classic misunderstood antihero, this is not it! lol
Your comment is rather brilliant though, as it does expound on the flaws in this drama. Regards!
She looked stunning...with the dewy look in her eyes, the dress, venue, everything was perfect. They make such a beautiful couple! I love the FL/ML's interactions. This drama just gets better and better with each episode.
It's so stupid. The FL only likes the ML because his face looks exactly like her ex. Can't even tell the difference…
Of all the unhinged, incoherent numbskullery...so you support censorship based on the ideal that if you are not showing approved propaganda, the government has the right to cancel you, but you personally draw the line at supposedly buying positive comments about yourself. That is not to say WJY or anyone else has done that, but just trying to figure out your value system as intimated by your own words. Human rights violations based on the governments whims are okay, but self-marketing is a sin. Gotcha!
Perhaps we should not go into personal attacks that lack merit and stick to the actual thing this page was set up for like, I don't know, reviewing the drama. But even that part of your font was weird. The ML lead and ex-husband look nothing alike, not even in their countenance nor the way they emote. Even in the way that they dress, the ML in bright reds and glorious colors to show his station, power, prosperity, determination, strength, and brilliance - red also denote happiness, good luck, beauty, and positive emotions which are all the things a good ML should have. While the ex wears white as a sign of his purity, intellect, and rank but it also symbolizes death and mourning...it makes it even the more startling that he is selfish, grasping, and untrustworthy. The costume designer, cinematographer, and director worked well to bring to life each character in their own significance while highlighting their differences. I don't know how you missed that and stated they look alike or that the female lead, as written, would think they look alike...or perhaps you are just blinded by bias. By the by, the female lead wants to revenge on all those who hurt her family including, but not limited to, her ex who tried to murder her, and his scheming partners. That is literally what her angle is in the drama, so I doubt she would like the ML because he looks like the person who tried to kill her and her family. Tell the truth, you haven't watched the drama you have only hate watched the promos. LOL
I'm sad for you that you're so angry, and so wrong. I hope your day, and discernment, improves.
frist episode is normal but next three episodes is super good .
I kinda understand what you are saying. I just finished the 1st episode myself and I found myself really annoyed by her. Her lie over a ripped shirt and damaged luggage literally changed the course of his life. I know the change was integral to the story, but they could have found any other way than this. It is not a meet-cute situation, it's a nightmare one and we're supposed to laugh it off because she's so plucky and cute. The writers took the cheapest and most melodramatic way to move the story forward which makes the FL kind of unlikable in episode 1.
Handsome cast, interesting story, and gorgeous cinematography as mentioned below...why is the rating so low for this? The acting is so genuine, so honest and true...it boggles my mind that the rating could be this low. Have you no hearts?
