There's a rule in place about splitting a long drama. Season 2 would have to wait a year before it's allowed to be aired. This is to prevent production company from loopholing a long drama. Because of this, I rather they keep it at 40 to finish the story. Other big dramas that split lost their momentum, like Flourished Peony and Lost You Forever.

I love everything about PoJ. I just wished the sound effect manager could have upped his game a bit more. I don't know how to describe it other than, for example, when Darth Vader appears, there's the marching song/sound effect. You JUST know someone important is coming. I understand your frustration. But, as also revealed in ep 24, Gongsun and the Marquis discussed over the importance of hiding her identity for her safety against the ALL POWERFUL ONE.
