I was hoping for more backstory with Lord Ling. It just doesn’t feel right he was killed off just like that. What a disappointment this arc didn’t have a better closure. I don’t mind that he passed, just that the execution felt flat.

He certainly has feelings for her. He's tasked with a lot of responsibilities from higher up along with investigating his mother's death. I think he's trying to prioritize matters, and that means, being in an open love relationship with her may not be a good thing at the moment although he's taken a liking to her.
ML is so hard to read. His face when she left after he said he sees her as a bosom friend in ep 14. Is it he likes her but doesn’t want to put her life at risk, or he’s new to the feeling and hasn’t quite grasp why he’s feeling bad and uncomfortable when she walked off, seeing that he may have hurt her feeling?
I suppose it’s a good thing we can’t read him because how else would he be able to fool the Emperor that he knows more than he shows.
It's so difficult to pin point the antagonist(s) in the show. We are not given many explicit clues. The cast isn't extensive, yet we still can't narrow down to the exact person. I've watched a lot of dramas and can say I've been able to deduce most of the times, but gosh, this one is a tough nut and I just finished ep 13. Got me really hooked.

ML said she wasn’t like that when she was younger, so I think she’s more overly traumatized plus being fed long term a regular dose of herbal tonic by her father’s consort messed up her head. I think she may get better now that she’s in a better environment . Let’s see.

Strangely. I like Benedict Cumberbatch...and ML, too. Their looks don't bother me that much. True, ML can improve a tad with his facial expressions and acting skills, but he did well as Hua Wu Que in Handsome Siblings, and I find myself checking out his other works, too; although sadly, I couldn't finish most of them due to poor storyline. Having said all that, he is charming in his own silent, non-expressive ways.
