I've decided to write my PhD in Sociology thesis/dissertation on GeSun and how their relationship inspires modern day women in searching for a loving, healthy, and supportive partner; and how Ah Sun is a prime model with traits we all wish our partner has.
Sadly, my thesis submission was rejected by the institution's department of Women's Studies because I can't find a mentor with expertise on Gesun as I'm the sole subject matter expert on the topic there.
Guess I'll never graduate now because I still can't move on from GeSun and Ashile Sun.
I LOVE this scene, especially when Ah Sun raised the fan-project up to Changge's face with just her eyes visible…
I don't have access to Viu. My primary source is Youtube which is uploaded by Huace. Sometimes I go to dramacool for raw. Good that you're watching on Viu with superior translations.
I seriously tried at least 5 new or still-airing cdramas, and I had to drop them. I don't want to name the titles…
I don't have a list. I just created this MDL account 2 weeks ago so I didn't document . But I can tell you that within the past 2 years, other than TLB, only 3 other cdramas and 1 kdrama are good enough for me to remember up to now. Everything else, I've already forgotten. I didn't even finish Legend of Fei.
Not in any order, here's my most recent faves: To Love (Kenny Lin) Heavenly Sword and Dragon Slaying Sabre (2019 version) General and I (Wallace Chung) Flower of Evil (Lee Joon Gi) and of course TLB.
Dramacrush subs surpassed VIKI It may be some weeks yet, before VIKI get to editing more nuance into subs. This…
I LOVE this scene, especially when Ah Sun raised the fan-project up to Changge's face with just her eyes visible while he lovingly gazed at her. Such longing. What he said was so beautiful, but the translation BLUNTLY showed "When can I have a wedding with you?" That wasn't what he said.
A little cultural info first. During this era, the red cloth veil hasn't been in fashion yet for brides. In early Tang period, the bride used a fan to cover their face during wedding ceremony/wedding day, and the groom will "draw back" the fan (equivalent to modern day "lift the veil").
Back to the story: Changge was making a "wedding fan" for Leyan. Anyhow, we saw how she butchered the project. When Ah Sun raised the red cloth to Changge's face, he was saying "When will I'll be able to draw back the fan for you?" This sounds so much more subtle and romantic. I pretty much went ga-ga and flipped over. It's too much for me to handle.
Understandably, having any form of translation is better than watching raw for non-chinese speaking viewers.
I agree. It's more than just see you there. Ah Sun last 4 characters were "Bu Jian Bu San" which has a really strong meaning. Literally translate to "No See No Leave." It's like saying, I will wait for you no matter what - in the rain/wind/snowstorm - even after 5 hours of waiting. So if you care for someone enough, you would show up because you don't want that person to wait for 5 hours not knowing whether you would come or not.
Still waiting for another episode to released but just wanna ask, why people call them as a bird or something…
It's because of their names in the drama. Sun in written Chinese character means FALCON but pronounced SUN. As for ChangGe, the GE sound is a homonym to the GE for PIGEON in chinese written character. Hence, you have GeSun - as in falcon/pigeon/birdies.
This is also why sometimes you see comments about them making little eagles and pigeons as a couple.
Just sharing a little history and how TLB fits into the timeline. We all know the series starts in July 626. TLB/GS…
This is indicated by Duke Du's and Princess Yicheng's death. They both died in 630 in history. The last battle in ep. 49 was loosely based on the Battle of Yinshan.
I think we need to enamor @chelsea93 with the same note Ah Sun wrote GS ==> "I miss you" . Hopefully that should be enough pulling power for her return to the forum.
Yah, direct translation is "got it, we're not leaving until we see each other" - But that's a bit long and too…
same here. just enjoying the ride, seeing the humor and beauty of TLB/GS. negativities are tossed aside - I have no time and energy for toxicity. If counting undergarments make us smile, then count away happily we do! =)
I'm surprised. Is it that difficult to get the pronunciation right even for native speakers?
It's possible that she's from Hong Kong and part of the director's long time trusted support team. Hong Kong people speak Cantonese dialect, and didn't have to speak Mandarin as an official dialect until recently.
They must have lots of clothes, they tear it down in an instant to treat the wound!
hahaha, sorry, I love this forum so much. I get so much laughter out of coming here and reading comments! And this one just kills me! We are so obsessed with everything GeSun that we even have to think about "how many pieces of clothes they have!" hahahaha. Should we also consider how many undergarments? =P

He's so magnetic. Only certain men can sport a V-neck with masculinity and he's killing it! He strides about like a modern day bad-ass warlord with all this bling-bling and hardware, trying to play nice for a day for us peasants.

He did it beautifully, but unfortunately, some translations turned it crude.
