I had the same thought. What if I An deliberately left the contract out for A-reum (the spy in his private residence) to find and report back to her controller(s)? He could be forcing their hand, getting them to take action at the wedding and perhaps expose themselves. Plus he puts a wrench in the whole divorce thing—assuming the wedding isn't annulled outright. And if A-reum was turned into a double-agent, she may have relayed the nature of the plot back to I An, who then enlisted hyper-competent never-makes-a-mistake Aide Hye-jeong to switch the poisoned cups!
But Hui-ju's trip at the table looks entirely unintentional, and the FL certainly wasn't in on the scheme. So then Hye-jeong wasn't in on it, either. Which implies that I An did not know about the poison. And this whole theory unravels. Why else would he behind the plot to leak the contract?

You motivated me to rewatch ep 8 which convinced me that you are correct. I appreciate the subtle yet evident subtext in each of the lead's performances. Episode 9 is when the romance will be officially acknowledged by both.
Hui Ju pretended her primary reason for her relief for his safe recovery by scolding him for making her worry should he die before he can grant her divorce. She feared becoming stuck within the palace forever & her goal thwarted. But genuine concern flashed through cracks in her pretense, along with shock at the realization of her heart. And I An's mock-sarcasm lacked any sting whatsoever as he politely thanked her for expressing a sincere concern for his life & well-being.

Hui-ju always said she was willing to take the brunt of criticism when their divorce became public, but she probably didn't expect the fallout to come so soon—or in this manner. (Unless we learn the leads arranged the release of the contract themselves, in a tactical twist! 🤔)
Is anyone suspecting Do Hye Jeong as a villain? I don't want to do so, but a couple of her scenes gave me pause. I won't mention which ones 'cos I don't want to start casting aspersions without good reasons, and because I really like her character & appreciate her loyalty to Hui-ju. 🤔
After ep 10 I'll finally start watching - so I can finish within a week in case it's bingable. So excited!

As of episode 8 the romance is still one-sided and—for the most part—merely pretense. The FL is disinterested in romance. She wants a platonic & unconsummated contract marriage for the purpose of attaining royal status above nobility. Her heart may flutter a bit due to the prince's advances—and viewers may project their romantic expectations onto the couple—but apart from the mere fact we are watching a romcom, we have no actual basis to presume she will eventually (or even ever) come around.
