I am reading the book and almost finish. There are some changes to the book but not too bad.

No one is perfect. We have prejudices. But if some one points out to me, I will correct it so I can improve myself.

The fact he that he apologized already shows that he knew he had erred. As his fan, you should be happy that your idol is a good guy who does the right thing. Hopefully, he will make no mistake in the future. He can say whatever he wants at home and among Chinese people. But when he is an international star, he has the power to make the world a better, not worse, place!

It's not about how the drawing looks. Beauty is in the eyes of the beholder so what might look good to you can look bad to me. To be honest, the drawing looks awful to me. The unkempt hair, thick lips, bushy brows, etc ... all point to an unpleasant vibe to me. And that's probably why he didn't accept it as his own picture. It does look like an exaggerated caricature of his overall looks.

The key is stereotyping a race is a form of racism.

For example, Asians are being stereotyped as "hardworking" "studious" etc ... even though these qualities may sound positive, they are racism stereotyping to put Asians down as not creative.

Also when people stretch their eyes to make the almond shape, they may look cute but it's very offensive to us. They never said anything but it's racism.

In China, racism is real. It's interwoven in the culture. Chinese government does nothing to stop it. For example, racism is rampant about black people there.

There's a lot of racism in Asia because the culture is not built around awareness of racial stereotyping.

Racism is an unconscious thing. It just slips out because the society is like that IRL. When they are among themselves, they say things like that. It's only when people who are educated on racism catch them, that's when they know it's politically incorrect.

From the sound of his apology, he still doesn't get it. It's not about how he values SEA fans. It's about pointing to the picture and claim that's a SEA look alike. That's stereotyping a race.

I just summed up the relationship and mysteries as I read the book in my review. It's little confusing for me how the characters are related to the past and presents. Hope this help people who are following the drama too:

Well for sure this is NOT a serious drama. It's for people like me who just want to see romance and some humor. The acting and chemistry are both great. It's not for serious critique and political intrigue. The directing is also good. I think it's better than reading the story.
