As I'm not from that region I don't understand much about this situation. Can anyone tell me what in this picture…
Actually for people who don't grow up in Chinese culture, it's very difficult to understand the racism behind these words. Whether it's SE Asia or any other countries, it's a deep rooted belief that these different races are not equal to Chinese. There's this superiority complex and class system that are archaic and they seep into the words without being conscious.
My family (grandparents came from China A LONG time ago before communism) but they still kept the same thinking and passed it down to the next generations: I grew up hearing wrong things like you should only marry Chinese, You only marry the people from these regions of China. etc etc etc. These last names etc etc ...
Chinese have unflattering names for white people... black people etc...
Racism exists on many levels. If it's not, people wouldn't call him out for it. It's good that he's apologizing (actually clarifying what he meant) because what he didn't say meant a lot of things to people like me who had grew up under this system and to other people in South East Asia. He is a role model ... just in case some one is offended.

We have thousands of years of cultural civilization... My cousin ended up single because she couldn't marry a white guy - that would have messed up the Chinese pure blood.

Racial stereotyping is wrong and should be clarified. He didn't say "bad things" about SE Asians, but he made a claim that the cartoon picture represented SE Asian people.
What does a South East Asian person look like? Do they all look the same? Dark skin? Bushy eyebrows, Small eyes, barbarian, bad hair??? Clearly, these features don't describe EVERYONE in South East Asia.
He's already fought off a group of local rebels, armed mercenaries (2x), secretly purchased supplies for his wife,…
I do agree that this ‘no one forced you to watch’ is very typical of people on the forum when they think that the drama or actors are being criticized.
It would be nice if the response is not personal but analysis of the drama.
I suggest that you block the person whom you deem is rude. That way, you don't have to suffer these passive/aggressive comments. I do it all the time.
I would love to know your favourite C dramas if you rate this average and only think it deserves attention from…

Just in case you are not familiar with the heat index: "Because platform-specific heat indexes can be influenced by internal marketing, serious industry watchers use independent data trackers to verify a show's "true" popularity" You can clearly see that heat indexes created by Tencent can be false. It's dependent on Total Playback: The overall number of views. Effective Views: Not all clicks count; the system prioritizes "long-watch" time and unique user views. VIP Weighting: Engagement from paid subscribers typically carries more "heat" than from non-paying users.
You can see that "paid subscribers" have high influence on the rating.

Actually, this drama is very decent. I haven't been watching Chinese drama since last December because the quality is so so.
I never said it was "average" - In fact, if you look at my current rating of this drama, it's at 10 - actually, it should be around 9. But I always give 10 to those that I think is enjoyable.
I don't watch dramas based on the actors - I think many people do this and feel obligated to defend their actors. I don't defend dramas either. I just say what I feel - people are allowed to have opinions on forum as long as it's not harmful and vulgar.
My all time favorite: Love Like the Galaxy - I think the director is very good at storytelling and filming too. It's like watching a high end movie. I also watch Korean dramas. The quality is also good there because they don't have 40 episodes to drag out.
The Prisoner of Beauty is also another good one.
All these dramas have 8.9 and up. We don't even have to debate. At the end of each drama, we will see the rating and how high it will be maintained after years and years, not just in the beginning.
This drama slowly builds up in the beginning so it's a little draggy. But the director is also talented - You can try his previous drama - very similar development of characters. Both the leads have chemistry and acted well.
Chinese dramas have its up and downs. However, what drive traffic are the fans. The poplular idols like the ML will have a lot of fans driving the traffic to drive up the rate in the beginning. That's how China film industry works.
I didn't say this is an average Cdrama. I said it shouldn't be getting huge volume like it's the drama of the century. There are other dramas without the idol leads - they are good too.
Have fun watching. I will also review this drama at the end. I expect this drama will end at around 8.7 to 8.8.
I don't believe the views I feel that the Fans are doing a great job of a fake popularity for the show:I started…
I disagree with your assessment of the story - seemingly generic. I think it has some fresh take (Yes, there was story about a butcher FL before). However, the combination of the characters, the filming by the director, and the actors do contribute to the overall popularity of the show.
You have valid points about fan based popularity index. We've seen this in most of the idols dramas. The ML here has A LOT of fans who are willing pay to push his drama.
However this drama has a few things going right for it: chemistry, storytelling, and humor.
Again - I respect your right to post. Don't worry about other people. They have an opinion. You have one too. I also suggest blocking fanatic people so you can earn your right to voice your opinion.
So why aren’t others buying views to make their dramas popular? So many big, high budget dramas have flopped,…
FYI: The ML has a lot of fans who are willing to pay. Of course, the director and the story have to work out too. This drama seems to be doing well in both.
Well, I think the incredible/unbelievable hype is fueled by fans and possibly paid by fans. However, the story is worth watching after 7! The director is from Blossom - very similar quality.
Tencent's rating: Total Playback: The overall number of views. Effective Views: Not all clicks count; the system prioritizes "long-watch" time and unique user views. VIP Weighting: Engagement from paid subscribers typically carries more "heat" than from non-paying users.
I am always skeptical of the rating when the payers can influence!
Don't bother to attack me because this is just a personal opinion. You can have one too- just post it separately from mine. If you use offensive language, you will be blocked.
When a public figure is linked to such a heavy tragedy, it becomes nearly impossible to separate the actor from the allegations.
The power imbalance of their relationship is at the heart of problem.
Regardless of the legal outcome, the ethical argument is that a veteran actor in his 30s holds significantly more social and emotional leverage than a young actress facing a career-ending crisis. The fact that she chose his birthday to take such a final step paints a devastating picture of the emotional weight she was carrying.
I wish him well and understand that there may be another side of the story. However, I cannot in fair conscience watch dramas from him when I know that he ignored the cries for help of a woman who had to commit suicide on his birthday to get some attention!
Looks like Prof Kang doesn't want a divorce - "Divorce in South Korea is increasingly common but still carries significant social, familial, and legal stigma. While attitudes are shifting toward accepting it as a personal choice, it is often viewed as a failure, particularly for women, and can lead to strained family relations and gossip. Legal processes are challenging, as courts often require proof of fault."
Yes, I can't wait until the professor gets what is coming to him. I will hate that his family will be so hurt…
I wouldn't worry about the wife. It's best that she knows what kind of man he is! I hope she divorces him and find a better person who really loves her.
I don't care if Jang Mi is foolish and childish. That homewrecker scene is soooooo satisfying!!!! 🤣🤣🤣 Now let's do the same to the Professor and post it on the internet too!
Looks like JunHo is warming up to the idea of marrying an heiress.
