On Moon Lovers: Scarlet Heart Ryeo Sep 15, 2016
SCARLET HEARTS RYEO has an epic love triangle that reverberates through time/space and current and historical re-telling and living up to the definition of a top notch drama experience. With the star studded cast this has everything wonderful, everything intriguing, everything culminating as expressed through the eyes, and heart of all the actors but none more deeply felt but from our alluring lead male, Lee Joon Ki. LJK's aura has an emotional breath that is beyond comparison, he is a quality and measure unto himself. He has a Antonio Banderas Zorro swag. His profile is sharp (so sharp-I feel a drop of blood escaping from my heart) sleek and mysteriously lonely, but the measure of his rudeness is proportionate to the cruel betrayals that he was dealt. IU, with her gentle, playful joie de vivre is bringing her absolute best, her performance sterling. IU will help our lead shed his spiked armor of loneliness. Love seeing Kim Ji Soo he was awesome in "The Page Turner". I will forgive this drama for a possibly sad ending for what it is giving in the way of acting, cinematography, multi factorial characters, in a story not just plainly delivered but splendidly all nourishing. I'm hoping this is such a block buster that SBS will extend it 2-4 more epi.

**ParkChohaw**, Your article underscores the power of music on a great drama, it elevates it even more then it would by itself. I describing music and drama as this: when searing music embeds with a great drama my heart ignites!! Secret Love Affair Love, Five Fingers and Spring Waltz and Beethoven's Virus and Harmony clearly exemplifies how powerful and moving the duet of music and drama can have on our pysychi, it can make our bones ache, our hearts race, and beyond this,it can be wholely cathartic.
The First Drama's ost that hit me like a ton of bricks was "Warrior Baek Dong Soo", I can't begin to describe the soonomi-like effect it had on my emotions, that music crumble my knees and totally snatched any resolve. The next current one to strike such an impact was "Memory" that music brought tears to my eyes every epi it played (not even knowing what the lyrics were). As **bmore** pointed out I absolutely fell in love with the music in "It's Ok. That's Love".such a perfect match of music and drama.
Thank again, for another enlightening article, **Mydramalist** is so blessed, having such a creative and thoughtful writer elevating and contributing to its site.

I thinks there is nothing sexier then a tenor sax and nothing more angst & sweeping than the strings of a violin in play.

I haven't come across a drama with such emotional impact, I mean each and every episode has an emotionally symphonic chime to it, that it resonates (literally) tears of salt droplets. I tend to be on the quiet stoic side but this drama timed with its ost has literally made me cry, just not a few drops of tears but streams of tears and dropped me to my knees past the floor board.

You have angered the Noodle God. Prepare to die. I, too, seek revenge upon my enemies by becoming a master chef…
Great comment, I sooo agree, especially after watching the 1st episode.

** myungsooo ** your article really pointed out the success of this drama... the actors, each of the characters struck a near perfect pitch individually and collectively, endearing and pledging our allegiance to this drama. Especially deeply felt was Song Joong Ki and his bromance partner Jin Goo. This was a drama that has caught the up-winds of actor recognition, great marketing and timing (Song Joong Ki 1st drama after his militarily serv. AND N. korea's nuclear aggression). Additionally I agree, that the writing was good but certainly not on a master's level- ball parks away from the brilliant "Misaeng" or "Memoryl" and think it's overrated but not to the point of out-cry as seen by some netinizers. Overall a solid drama in great part to character: affinity, cohesiveness and chemistry.

Be still, my thumping heart. I'm beyond ecstatic seeing Chun Jung Myung, his acting is diverse, delicate and driven. CJM's performances in both "Heart To Heart" and "Reset" are tantamount to WBA knock-out performance, done with butterfly wing artistry. Jung Yoo-Mi's beauty is ethereal and unpretentious. At this noodle house, the name of the #1 noodle dish must be, *Lightening rod noodles: full flavored freshness, froth with friction. Episode 1 bears out aforementioned adjectives. Some one hold me back!!, this 1st epi is straight away seethingly infuriating with awesome acting that delivers a 1- 2 punch at the most emotional level..... by shattering a child's idyllic home - the center of his security, his universe.

**Chohwa** Loved this artical. Your writing is such and easy breezy pleasure to read, experience because your thoughts are clear and insightful analytics.
The "Duelist" was a full immersion experience of the duality of conflicting emotions played out so sleekly by Gang Dong-Won ", and equally notable in "Kundo : Age of the Rampant". I fell in love with his ability to dig deep and sharpen the subtleties of his character's persona- the unconscious hook that freezes the audience in their tracks, such as the performance in "Our Happy Time". I hear you about his mental health, with his successive dark and twisted and tragic roles. With his reigning talents I'd be willing to wager he could do comedy just as proficiently, which would give him and us some relief. Yup, I'm an unapologetic fan.
Choi Min Soo, saw him 1st in in "Warrior Baek Dong Soo" and currently watching him in "Daebak" he is such an absorbing character actor- always draws 100% focus when he's in camera range.
Im Joo Hwan, in "Oh My Ghost" was a real slime ball, so creepy, the recall still makes my skin crawl.
Son Chang Min loved him in" Cruel City" and yes his best performance dove-tailed right with one of the best crime/mobster dramas in years, wish they would produce a season 2.
Again, thank you so much Chohwa for your Charismatic Killers in Korean dramas, series.

Omo, Omo, Omo, giving me Jang GeunSuk is wonderful but giving me Yeo Jin Goo too, (in the same drama) is beyond everything. Nestled in the juicy halls of a gambling parlor, and the gamblers who's stratagem, will stake their fortunes and lives, mimics the ruse and scheming of the palace politics, we find is not dissimilar. This historical tale will be froth with intrigue and revenge and the the twisted journey between pain and redemption. I feel I've been quadruple tapped with the commanding presence of Yeo Jin Goo, Jun Kwang Ryul, Choi Min Soo and Jang Geun Suk. I can't wait for the ensuing tension between JGS & YJG & Im Ji Yeon as they begin their adversarial role before realizing that the first and original sinner/enemy has orchestrated a false conflict even before their birth. Wonderful, full array of sight sounds and feelings. I love that I have Me a whole lot of JGS & YJG.

I just can't get over how well written and acted this drama is, the story of 1 lawyer and all that the degree of connections around him makes up the whole of this drama- thoughtful and keenly effective. This drama that seems somewhat under viewed by the drama world will have its day, and make its marked in the book of precious works.

I agree with you about Moon Chae Won's diversity, puts her head and shoulders above and into a higher echelon, precious-echelon. Epi 3 & 4 were awesome.

This is my thoughts with comparing Goodbye Mr. Black with DOTS: I love both Goodbye Mr. Black and DOTS and respect…
I'm with you, I knew they would make a phenomenal pair, without even seeing the first epi.
By the way I loved you quote on your personal page, I'm going to barrow it, hope you don't mind.

This is my thoughts with comparing Goodbye Mr. Black with DOTS:

I love both Goodbye Mr. Black and DOTS and respect that they're totally different dramas and independent of any comparative parallels, except on ONE point: chemistry b/t the 2 leads. Chemistry in DOTS- good, Chemistry in ** GMB- EXCELLENT**- It's like Lee Jin-Wook's & Moon Chae-Won's DNA sequence were genetically marked to recognize each other, their connection- unequivocal.
I admit chemistry b/t actors is a MAJOR hook (for me) that separates a: out of the park, shut the back door, bring down the house, no comparison, great drama, from a good drama. The all alluring and solidifying chemistry b/t the leads in GMB is pheromone driven. Jin-Wook and Chae-Won's spoken, and the deeper unspoken language in addition to their game on interplay, pushes the nearest competitor out of sight...and out of competition....no comparison.

Yaya,ya the ratings have not caught up with the quality and showmanship that this great drama deserves, but I have faith in our drama lovers and the ratings will climb week by week. Hey and you know what~~ slow and steady sometimes wins the race.~~ aja aja fighting!!

So far this drama has the potential to be a top notch drama production, It's ok that it veers from the manhwa, and is simply inspired by the manwha, It should be judged on it's own merits. From what I saw in the 1st 2 epi it has the writing strength to stand on its own, and it certainly has a sterling cast to deliver the drama hook that viewers look for. Right of the bat I see divisive, devoted developing dynamics that moves this drama into, the much watch now zone. Pairing Lee Jin-Wook with Mon Che-Won is chemistry 101- an eccelerant- a sizzle factor 451 Fahrenheit. I do regret it's going up against DOTS (nothing can catch up to that race horse), with the craze of DOTS, the lion share of the Wed/Thur viewer ratings will go 1st to DOTS. BUT the ratings for GMB will surely, steadily grow as people realize how intriguing and sharply acted this is and the hearts of the drama viewers will give all the love and attention it deserves, even it it's slightly delayed.

Again your articular is such a smooth and engaging read. SixFD has a plethora of characters that run the gamut of villainous vibrant, to agonizingly altered, to magnificently noble & every variation in b/t. My 2 fav. characters are B.Yo-Han (Ddang sae) and Y.Kyoon-Sang (Moo Hyul). Holy-academy-contender, didn't think Yo-Han could ever equal the Nobel quality of "Misaeng" but his performance here has just surpassed my, the producer's & the writer's expectations. The other standout is Kyoon-Sang, boy his acting pedigree is grown by the episodes. YKS is so adorable I just want to put him in my pocket, to have & to hold a figure of human purity.

The premise of the script seems unique with a dose of social-political intrigue. Song Joong Ki brings a dimension to his character's validity that's real, faithful and career- excellent. Song Joong Ki will connect with us through his eyes, lead us and move our hearts to believe, our pulse to quicken and our palms to sweat believing everything about his character. The body of his work exemplifies the diversity of his reach. He's able to ring in the delicate notes of an affable charmer, to feeling the cold shadow of dark emotional angst and even haunt us in the memory of a mystical creature, in a love with no end (Werewolf Boy) ..... And now this role, is all him- mature, responsible, dedicated and an epic lover- about to rock our senses into history.
I'm so glad to be seeing Gin Goo, he is a capable and lovable actor and definitely adds value to this drama. I'm warmed by him and trust his character implicitly.
OMGosh Song Hye Kyo is a brilliant actress, watching her beautiful and talented face gracing us in this drama gives me assurance of quality. She is about to OWN the deepest most precious love and how it can give strength to the one you love, in the darkest of hours .
