the bromance is the only saving point. I just find it weird that all of the guys' potential romantic partners are like a decade or so younger than them. Also, one of the FLs is so doormat-like and does not seem to have much self-respect....

Though I am enjoying this very much, I hate the acting of Ennosuke Ichikawa and Kataoka Ainosuk. They both act…
It's no coincidence perhaps that they both trained as and were Kabuki actors before going into dorama.
On Hanzawa Naoki Season 2 Mar 6, 2024
ok they gave "Mrs." Hanzawa a little flower delivery business of her own lol

I enjoyed it, but seemed to me there are more overacting compared to the first season. Terukawa's cousin (the "actor" who played the bad guy in the first part) looked like he is constipated half of the time, and Terukawa's acting actually felt contrived. The second time he did the "death" thing I actually rolled my eyes.

On the other hand, I still appreciated Ainosuke-san's performance. I guess his is the type of overacting I can stand. Also, I could not help but notice his quiet dignity during the substitute talk show between Episodes 7 and 8. Such a contrast to both the flamboyant crotch-grabbing taxman he played in the drama and the vulgar Terukawa in the talk show. No wonder he managed to win Fujiwara Norika's hand lol.

so you have two actors related to kabuki in one drama. Kagawa Teruyuki and
Kataoka Ainosuke VI.

The former played a character almost as vile as his real life person is - I thought back to the poor woman he harassed IRL every time he appeared in the scene lol.

Some of the well-written reviews noted the latter's over-acting. I don't mind, because I was enjoying his use of feminine grammar. This sort of acting works best on stage but not on television, where the likes of Takito Kenichi and Sakai Masato shine.

As for Ueto Aya - nothing against her, she plays the character typical and expected of a Japanese banker born in the 1970s - a wife who is likely 10 years younger and of course, has no career and life ambitions of her own except for supporting her husband. Good for Mrs. Hanzawa, but not my cup of tea. I fast forwarded through all of the scenes she appeared in and I still get the story 100%. The character is superfluous.

I love how the background sound track that plays during the romantic moments is a deliberate rip-off from A Time for Us (from the 1968 Romeo and Juliet film) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4FHpmn-KYec

Repeating what another commenter said about Onuki Yusuke's "laser dance"

And finally, the brother (Wataru) is just too cute for words.

Started decent but failed miserably. Sometimes was fun but most of the times it was pretty cringe. And of course…
I gave it a 4

So Mitsushima is basically playing the same eccentric little cute lady in all of the dramas she's in. I'm sorry, I'm usually a fan of Kudo Kankuro's work but this one stinks. I could not wait to finish it and mark it done. The only redeeming features are the radio show and its "secret" DJ, plus Nagayama Kento.

Also, I'm glad I watched this one before watching Ore no Ie no Hanashi, because, having watched both, one can see that the writer is running out of ideas already. The concept of the guy (and it's always a guy) having to choose between continuing the family business or forging a career in another field is getting old.
On Let Me Call You Father-in-Law Jan 23, 2024
The age gap between Daidouji and Miran is really icky, but I overcame it using my fujoshi imagination. What if it's the beginning of a beautiful relationship between Daidouji and ... Kiichiro instead? (The final scene kind of fulfilled my BL fantasy lol)

Anyhow, rather than a story about Daidouji and Miran, it's really a story about Daidouji and the Hanazawa family, how he became the catalyst of change (for the good) in each of them - the brother, the sister, the mother, the grandfather and of course, the father (Kiichiro) himself.

Instead of making him a much older man than his wife-to-be, I guess the writers could have given Daidouji other flaws or features that made him an undesirable son-in-law to a man like Kiichiro (perhaps having similar character to Kiichiro's father). But the age thing has the most impact, I guess.

I like everything about this drama aside from one thing: the (budding) romance between the younger female lead and the protagonist. Is it really necessary?

The "career" policeman having a crush on the male lead is a refreshing one though.

Sawamura Ikki's brilliant performance was more than enough to make up for having to watch Kuroki Meisa's wooden acting. The guy who played the MD is also good, as are most of ML's fellow students.
On The Girl's Speech Nov 12, 2023
The ML is a creepy older man who's grooming the FL and the FL is too screechy when she preaches. I only finished it because old me took the effort to torrent this x years ago. Also Namase Katsuhisa is precious a Tights Kintoki.
On Japan Sinks: People of Hope Nov 4, 2023
It didn't occur to me until the last few minutes of the final episode to wonder about the folks in Okinawa, about 100 km from the southern tip of Kyushuu. (Okinawa is Japan too, right ;)) Curious if the novel mentions it too.

Otherwise, not too bad. Would have been better without the side plot involving one of the ML's ex-wife and kid. Or if they made things fully platonic between him and the journalist. Still, there were a few moments of bromance between the two MLs which made up for these inadequacies.
On Genkai Danchi Aug 19, 2023
I cheered for the protagonist right until the end. Especially at the end when he claimed, or promised or threatened (depending on your point of view and how much you like/detest him), to disseminate newsletters even at the place he was going to end up in. I can't wait to see him reform hell/prison/wherever it is that he ended up in.
