I really love the performances of the FL and many of the supporting cast in their other dramas. Hence, my question is whether the supporting cast likw WJT, YDQ, etc. are just props or do they have compelling storylines?

Their rules are mostly to do with time travel that spans hundreds of years, like for instance, if Scarlet Heart Ryeo had been produced now, it would have been promptly banned. In dramas like Reset and Love in Time (the remake of a Taiwanese drama), they traveled only a couple of days/months into the past. Soul swapping is also a no-go.
