Honestly, I didn't see this particular scene as cute even as I saw it for the very first time. It was almost a foetal position. He had just been through the wringer and it felt like he was clinging to her for dear life, scared that she would once again disappear from his memories. My suspicion was confirmed when he admitted to Sol later that he feared her travelling across time again and losing his memories of her.
