Honestly, I agree with you; it seemed like he loved/liked her from the very start since they were children. And it's obvious he likes her now, especially from the jealous scenes we are starting to see and overall the way he cares for her and worries. It is just a bit confusing with the whole other girl thing, especially from the other flashbacks where you see him upset because the other girl doesn't want to be him.
