Yeah, it seems that backstory will be told later in the drama, but the show has already introduced tidbits of her interest in humans and their world like when Yan Ke brought her the tea set as a souvenir, her making the sugar painting/tang hua, her acting as He Xiaoxiao based on her observations of humans, etc. In this sense, experiencing those senses stems from this curiosity/interest and also never having been able to as a spirit.

It's because the novel that this drama is based on is written during that time. Part of the plot also focuses on the developing solar panel industry at that time so it has to stay in that timeline to make sense.
This topic has a lot of potential pitfalls, but the cast and crew do a mindful job of not falling into those. The show also gives a lot of space to the survivors' lives outside of being rescued. Their narratives don't end when they are found; instead, we get to peer into their struggles, the trauma they work to overcome, and their bravery in facing the world once again. In particular, the stories of Zheng Weiwei, Bai Xiujing, Lian Qiao, and Yang Caiyun were standout. These women not only fought hard for themselves but also to free others in the same situation. In general, props to the supporting cast because their acting was on point.
On the other side of things, I do wish there was a better balance of the investigative side to the emotional plot lines and tighter focus on the main characters to help anchor the plot a bit more. There are still things left open for the audience to fill the blanks of the drama's conclusion, but it is a suitable enough ending for me.
