I swear rarely I cry watching wu xia or xin xia drama, but I cried so hard on the last episode, from start till…
Ep 40 was one loooong goodbye. As the episode played out, little by little you knew it was a farewell and made even more poignant and sad that LLH was leaving everything behind. When I had saw the trailer of him jumping off the cliff to the boat below, I was not expecting this scene to be his final exit from the martial arts world. Such π.
Isn't this how most wuxia and xianxia are where the 'master' just senses thing and appear when the most dire situation…
Sometimes there are more questions than answers to these tropes. I've learned to let it go and appreciate they are rescued at the right moment. ππ€£

Most of these fantasy genres be it wuxia or xianxia always have this understanding that the 'master' has all the knowledge and a kind of sixth sense on everything that goes on around them. In this case with LLH having visited his master's wife and her knowing his condition, you could fill in the dots that she somehow is keeping an 'eye' out on him. So it's a typical fantasy theme trope where the almighty master knows what is going on and will eventually come in and help.
Ok Iβm confused, how did the Masterβs wife just randomly appear in the palace at the opportune time to reveal…
Isn't this how most wuxia and xianxia are where the 'master' just senses thing and appear when the most dire situation arises? π I believe this is where you have to suspend your sense of disbelief and just go with it. π It's the same thing with the flying and cliff falling, you don't get it but it happens. π
That extra 5 minute episode is the definition of an open ended finale.
The way they depicted LLH standing on the beach staring out at the sea, then the dog, FDB, FDS comes riding/running up to the spot, but the dog just stops and stares up (but you don't know what or who) without barking or making any other movements. Then there's the hard to decipher expressions of DFS and FDB not indicating any relief or happiness to see their friend again. And of course the LLH smirk which could be taken as either he realizes his friends found him or he's self reflecting on his life. And lastly the panning out of the camera showing no one standing in front of the water.
You can take any of these combinations and come up with your own conclusion. The lack of specific details left it ambiguous enough to fill in the blanks. Unlike other dramas where they lead or insinuate what might happen, this one felt like a definite write your own ending.
Came across some reddit articles about MLC and this one person said after watching a CY drama they 'feel like a junkie in withdrawal'. Never truer words. π
And seems like people are taken with the lotus house cause that person also labeled it Howl's Moving Castle like a commenter here. I call dibs on it since it was last seen sitting empty! π
