I kinda like that Odajima was being selfish in not wanting to get sucked back in. He doesn't want to lose the freedom he gained. Apparently, he was quite happy those 3 years away with Kataoka. I hope he's able to find some peace with himself this season.
And their chemistry in the NC scenes is just as good as it was in S1. That smile on Odajima's face. Sooooooo gooooood!!!
Just watched AvenuX’s review. in it she says that when FL was 15, he was 20. Before she died, FL’s adoptive mom said that at that point they had known each other for 25 years. so that would have put FL at 40, and ML at 45. Then add 9 years on that and we’re looking at 54/55. About there.
I think what has me most down about the ending was how young his kids were when they lost him. It hits harder when we've seen him grow and how much love he has for his family. And he knew he was dying. So, friggin, sad.
NGL, that ending has me feeling a bit down. Really like the drama. I appreciate the time skips. But, gosh. This drama didn't hold back with loss. But at least it showed how they loved and the impact of their characters.
wow. The parallels between Han Liang and FL's father/grandfather are striking!
They paid the price for their principles. It's also interesting the parallels between ML and Han Liang. ML changed over time (thanks in a large part to his willingness to listen to FL and family). It's safe to assume that Han Liang didn't. Not only that, Han Liang family is much smaller. Whilst he and ML both love and protect their families, it might be safe to assume that the relationship and support is very different.

If I met He Yao, I’d be at least skeptical/suspicious of him and his motives. He screwed me over once before at the airport. What would make me want to trust so easily now? the only answer is desperation. Even then, though, I’d be skeptical/suspicious. As the audience, that is magnified with dramatic irony.
The problem with with Lin Zai is that he’s incredibly naive. Then you compound He Yao performative altruism and “concern” and he’s ensnared.
What really takes it over the edge though is how hurt A Lie is in all of this. He’s being vulnerable and getting hurt for doing so. Sure, he needs to come to terms with how his mission affect Lin Zai, but he really does believe himself when he says that he wouldn’t let anything happen to him.
I think he knows... what convinced him was when Grandpa Lin recounted how the painting had belonged to Grandpa…
He deduced that FL told her adoptive father about the painting and that's how they got it. She would have seen the painting before and known it was from her family's possessions and knew its worth.
I don't think Lin Zai fully trusts He Yao, but he's ready to do everything for family. He grabs that last bit…
And I think that's where the problem exists with Lin Zai and A Lie. He viewed granny and the rest of his previous camp as family and found/finds it difficult to separate from them again. He wanted to go back to them. His brother is family and he is blind by everything else, just to save his family. Other people are above A Lie at this point. I don't think he loves A Li like family or deeper than that yet to make him prioritize him in the way A Lie does him. Maybe, for ALie, Lin Zai might be his only family at this point, and Lin Zai's actions make him feel like he's being abandoned again.
If the drama wanted to elicit strong emotions in me these past 3 episodes. They've succeeded. I'm seriously annoyed at Lin Zai.
He doesn't trust A Lie at all. On one hand, it's easy to understand his perspective. A Lie has shown that he does not believe that zombies can be cured and that we will eliminate them if need be. The "if need be" is the problem I have with Lin Zai. He doesn't see that. He just sees that it's too much of a risk to tell A Lie. He does not see the effort that A Lie has been putting in to listen to him and change. He is not willing to give A Lie the benefit of the doubt. That makes you feel for A Lie who has for a long time been emotionally open and available to Lin Zai.
This is new for him. To be an emotionally vulnerable as he is. Sure, he's clingy and possessive, but he's told Lin Zai why. Lin Zai has made little to no effort to understand that aspect of him for them to work on that and reach some degree of equilibrium. For as much as he's said that A Lie has made no effort to understand him, Lin Zai has been giving directions and A Lie has for the most part been listening and trying. Unfortunately for both of them, Lin Zai is not emotionally available to work on that right now as his focus is mostly on his brother.
And He Yao is one messed up villain. He's mixing truths with half truths, misleading statements, and lies. He's giving hope to Lin Zai, when his priority is his brother. When the chances of curing his brother Sheng Chang Huan or allowing him to live a more stably life are significantly higher that Lin Zai's brother getting cured. But how long can he keep farming Lin Zai's blood?
