Good movie, but what a confusing ending! I remembered clearly, during the later part of the movie, after Adam pursued Eva back in a wedding reception, they both went home, but Eva saw a contact lens container that was owned by Adam's student, Mandy. Then, she confronted Adam about it. After that was a scene when Eva was back at work and finally goes back to the notebook shop, opens a notebook with her face in it and smiles to a person whose face was not revealed in the ending. So, because I really cannot get over with the ending, I need to search for others' reviews. I read somewhere that the movie had an open ending so anyone can give interpretations. Based on the reviewer's own thoughts, because of knowing Adam cheated on her, most likely Eva dumped Adam & ends up with Shutter. I agree to this conclusion for now.
The vintage-y, sort of neo-futuristic vibes brought by this movie is what makes this captivating. I'm fascinated by Director Wong and his works now after completing the trilogy.
Although this movie was released in 1990, the whole setting looks exactly like the 1960s, from the interiors to the costumes, so old-fashioned, yet visually appealing with a star-studded cast. It's my first time to see these actors how good-looking they were way back then. Great cinematography and direction under the brilliance of Mr. Doyle and Director Wong.
I already have seen "Meteor Garden" & "Devil Beside You", those were the good times man. There is a very big difference between now and the earlier times, from technology to fashion. Those moments give the feeling of nostalgia & makes me smile. I definitely enjoyed this article!
