That's cool! I didn't know that. Tagalog, the Philippine language, also has roots in the Spanish as it was under the Spanish rule for over 300 years. So a Filipino, especially the older generation, can understand a pretty good amount of Spanish.

I have to ask. From what I understand, as mermaids, they are genderless until they fall in love and then they assume the gender opposite of the person they love. So do they look as men and women just to blend in with people? For example, Su Mo looked like a man before he fell in love with Bai Ying and took on the gender of a man. Same for Yan Xi. My question then is if a "woman mermaid" falls in love with a woman, will "she" then be reborn as a man and vice versa? That means they'll have to buy a whole new set of clothes! Seriously, though, someone please explain. Maybe the novel explained it?
