It's different... for me it feels lighter despite the darker story.. but it's still entertaining.

High rated dramas are often not for me either. I like when a drama doesn't pretend to be real life... I am watching series for entertaining. :)

I think they attempted to make us, the viewers learns the past life along the way, instead of starting the story…
I prefer flashbacks rather than watching a story two times (tragic and corrected version). So far I don't feel disconnected from the characters, but I'll see how it will develop later...

Oh, sorry, I didn't read the novel, just watched the drama. I am glad there was no rebirth in the show, I find weird when in a story somebody's soul goes to the body of another person. 🫢

There is no rebirth in The Rise of Ning (just revenge, as in every Chinese costume drama :D )
