Thank you very much for your kind words. I completely agree with you. I'm not a novel reader so I go into this…
The sets and costumes were gorgeous and LR and PWX were so adorable when they were bickering and being sweet and it was awesome to see their relationship grow and I was looking forward to it being a romantic/palace politic drama but half the time we had to see Nut Sack with his evil smirk and what not. Heck I would say give more of his time to Li Chuan and Qin Zhenzhen or even his brother and Yan Shanguan. When I saw the BTS i was in awe of it all and while the actors did a great job with what they had but they really just ruined it in the 2nd half with the focus shifting to Nut Sack and I was like did they did a 180 degrees or something ?? And so many people were complaining that they cut out so many sweet scenes to give to Nut Sack to which I was like -_- do you guys even know who your audience is ?? Like you pegged it as romance not a love sicko nut job.
It really had potential to be a beloved series to be talked about for a LONG TIME but I have a feeling by the end of the year people will just chuck it aside
Mine was Princess Hours (Goong), my mom and I were so crazy about it when it was showing on our local tv channel (Chinese Dubbed) that we bought the CD's and were so confused to hear them speak Korean but over time we got used to it and it has so many fond memories of it that I hope to visit the actual Teddy Bear Museum one day ! Still manifesting for that remake to one day happen.
Also agree with Cho Na that I am still waiting for Seo Jin Guk and Kim Yoo Jung to be main leads in a romance drama (I cant believe no one has approached them)
Thank you for your review !! I honestly wanted to throw my hands up in the air every time Nut Sack came along that I gave up and just skipped all of his scenes which left 1/3 or even 1/2 the episode gone (making is as short as a mini series) .
I can never understand how much sway 1 producer had over the entire series that she could push forward to make SRQ character have so much significance in the series.
The parts they did well, they did it tremendously well. the parts they didn't do well they did it SO HORRIBLE. ZLH and ZJM were absolutely killing it in this series and like many others i stayed on mostly for them even when I wanted to slap LR for treating PWX like shit and was still lingering onto Nut Sack till the very end. He absolutely did not deserve any redemption, he lost that right when he came back and instead of making things better he just decided to go down the wrong path and stubbornly believed that his way was the right way.
I know its not fair to compare the series to the Novel but seeing it from just a drama standpoint, there was so many things they could have done to make it a beloved series but now its just left a sour taste on a lot of people mouth.
I agree with you. The producers are really ruining the show. This explanation you just gave makes perfect sense…
That’s ridiculous, liking him or not you should follow the source material and if SRQ is the villain then he’s the villain, you don’t get to do a flip it, I mean if you wanna give him a redemption arc then sure but not to elevate his character…… it’s so bad cause I do like the dynamics of the leads but it’s annoying when the people who did the show are biased like that
I think the banquet scene today needed bit of explanation here cuz show cut important details,The whole premise…
I saw many people initially praising the show for following the novel but wow after episode 23 it’s like the show took a 180 degree turn ! Thank you for the explanation from the novel which made so much more sense and I would have loved to see SRQ get chewed out by his own father for hitting on a married women (who he claims to do it in order to protected her and his family )
Overall like what most people here said, even though it was a full length series the production felt like a mini…
2 main things really struck me as deep messages from this show Firstly was on the topic of racism and elitism, we can see in the royal court how the noble ladies looked down on FL cause she was from Dongyu a tribal group ( despite being a princess (and of higher rank for them) and how their people were actually sold as slaves and not able to hold legal business. When the FL confronted the ML about how harshly the court treated her even though she was a princess and how her people must have been suffering even more and the ML was stunned, for all his good efforts to bring peace he was still a princes and I guessed he never imagined exactly how difficult it was for the Dongyu people
Secondly was the cousin princess (gosh was she annoying) after not being able to marry the ML she threw a huge tantrum and asked her brother that he always gave her whatever she asked so why this time he was unable to give her the ML, it really make you think like she did ever liked the ML or just wanted him cause it was the 1 thing that she found it hard to obtained.
Also I dont get where the directors where heading by randomly throwing in the South General as a last minute villain wanting to start a coup and that random Consort Rong ( I think thats her name ?) and even hinting they were in a relationship before like huh what was that about ? It was just so random and didnt really fit with the storyline

Plus we have 20-30 plus year old sometime portraying high school and college student which that is clearly not very accurate
This was very insightful and I look forward to your review
Gonna be uploaded on YoYo tomorrow !
