I understand your perspective but I feel had they been too quick to make him fall for Sol without his memories…
Yeah I think if she wasn't so obviously sad it would have all been a lot funnier, which is why I think the script/direction didn't end up striking the right balance... I kind of think they should have done the Ep13 twist sooner though or given us a 20 episode series bc now I'm afraid the ending is going to be rushed.
On some reflection I think the Episode 13 twist was definitely the right way to go. It gets rid of the problem of Sun Jae having to wait 14 years + young!Sol having to come back to find her life hijacked/having to explain why she's suddenly in a relationship, and from a time travel narrative perspective, it really is the cleanest solution (as seen in many other time travel classics- just going to the root of the problem to solve the problem). That said, it still ends up being hugely emotionally devastating- it looks like she managed to convince her family to move house in the summer of 2008 (when he got injured + shoulder surgery) to completely be able to avoid him + taxi driver altogether and we see the montage of all their mementos disappear from his room. ๐
I rewatched Ep14 and I think the reason why I feel mixed on it is that without the sweetness of Sun Jae's lovesickness, his Top Star lewserness comes off a little obnoxious especially when juxtaposed with Sol's obvious grieving. It feels like we the viewers are also grieving the Sun Jae we've been watching the entire show too because it's now set in that he's actually dead (even though this new one is getting flashes of deja vu, he's still not "our" Sun Jae). I think the balance was a little off because of that- the script and direction didn't quite thread the needle of comedy + grief / mourning and I think it should have taken us a lot quicker into what's obviously coming next week (Sun Jae catching feelings + regaining memories) since we only have 2 episodes left. Instead of recycling footage from the past several episodes over and over again they could have just moved the plot along. I mean, that or given us at least 10 more minutes of In Hyuk adorably taking cutie-pie selfies of himself while viciously dragging Sun Jae, because, after all he's done for SolJae, our man deserves it. ๐
I have mixed feelings about this ep, I think things moved too slowly for the fact that we're already in Ep14 and things need to wrap up by Ep16... I will need to watch again later after work... but my immediate thought was... that damn army tag necklace is the only thing more powerful than the taxi driver it never dies ๐
I think he's going to feel extremely haunted by the ghost of her. That she left such an impression on him, even…
Looks like this time weโre also getting confusion and whining mixed in with a dash of In Hyuk as the chief officer of โmaybe she hates you because youโre a loserโ ๐คฃ
Am I the only one who doesn't need the psycho taxi driver's backstory? I mean for what? I see a lot of people…
Itโs clear that for some reason Sun Jae, Sol, and the taxi drivers fates are entangled in every timeline. The taxi driver is just a run of the mill psycho serial killer otherwise we would have gotten more info by now.
Ok but if Mr Smitten Actor Sun Jae starts stalking Sol everywhere and she still has her paranoia instincts and pepper sprays him in the face at some point we're gonna get the Com back in our Rom, my friends.
