I am at episode 19 (almost half way) and I have to say this is a gem and deserves a higher rating. I came for Gong Jun & Liu Yuning and decided to stay for Gong Jun, Dilraba, Liu Yuning, Princess Anning (Xia Nan), the plot & the OST. The rest of the support characters are great too. I honestly had the lowest of expectations and maybe that's why it has surprised me. It unfolds gradually and it slowly reels you in with its charm. Liu Yuning is a stand out and this is my first Dilraba series and I absolutely loved her. She was quirky, charming, openly flirtatious and overall very entertaining! Our main 3 actors are all in their 30s so I feel like they guided the show to its success and I am happy to say the plot is not overly complicated. It's clear and executed well, you know who the characters are and it's not confusing. It just got the basics right -- which a lot of Cdramas fail to do!!
Update : 13/09: Boys Over Flowers was my first introduction to kdrama and it's an absolute classic. I wanted to watch the Chinese version because I have converted to Cdrama this year!! But I must say Meteor Garden is complete nonsense! I am proud of myself for actually making it through ALL 49 episodes and keeping my sanity intact!! 🤪
******** Watching Meteor Garden again and hoping to finish it completely this time. Got up to about episode 16 my first time around. I do like Wang Hedi (especially now since he has gotten a lot better) but I couldn't stand his character in the earlier episodes. His hair and clothes were ridiculous & it was hard to take him seriously. I love this series and have also seen the Korean & Japanese version as well. Lots of people say the Chinese version is the best. Lets see how that goes!
I am up to episode 6 and I just have to comment on that god awful scene in the kitchen when she was typing out the manuscript for the interview. It was so painstakingly awkward! The background music just made it worse because it felt so fake. I think they have some issues with the script here. It's like they don't know how to script tension between two people!! And poor Wang Hedi. I think he has improved a lot but that scene when he is swiveling the wine made him look like a 12yr old playing dress up!! I came here for Wang Hedi, Wei Zheming & Bai Lu but it looks like even they can't out-act a bad script. I hope it improves because I want to finish this! 🤞-
Update : It didn't get better. It got worse. DROPPED.
Really enjoyed reading this review! I have come late to this series and I am keeping my expectations low. I love seeing Gong Jun & Liu Yuning in the same series! It such a delight. This is my first time watching Dilraba and I am really loving her character so far. She is quirky, charming & openly flirtatious which is always fun to watch. I find the plot intriguing but as you said it's really the 3 main leads that guides this series well and makes it watchable. I am still at the beginning but I am looking forward to seeing how things develop!
This was a quick one but it was executed well. The plotline was simple which is sometimes best! (especially for short dramas!) I really liked the FL! She was petite, sweet, curvy & cute! You don't really see that combo in Cdramas these days so I really appreciated that! It was a very seductive drama as well & the reverse harem was a pleasant surprise. This is a great pick me up in btw longer & more complicated costume dramas. It also ends well so definitely recommend it!! ❤

I am actually not sure we will get to see a kiss scene with these two... the FL is only 19 so I don't know if it'll get censored. I am only up to episode 3 & I am loving it so far.
can anyone recommend me chinese drama with similar vibe. I love the smart, tough, dark vibe ML and smart FL (wish…
Have you seen My Lethal Man? It's a modern drama and the Male Lead is everything you described in your comment. The FL is very timid & scared at the beginning but she grows into her character and becomes strong.
The other one is a filler drama I HAVE to mention if you like strong, dark male leads. The Snow Moon, the ML is a evil fox emperor & he is sinfully charming. The FL is very cutesy in that one though but it's still worth checking it out.
A Journey To Love with Liu Yuning beats this hands down but Love Between Fairy and Devil is not Wuxia it's Xanxia. Also a filler series with a better demon is The Snow Moon. The demon is so much better & the actor (Zuo Ye) might be younger but is more skilled than Wang Hedi.
Zuo Ye really was superb in this. His acting really surprised me! I loved the short drama! It was a lot of fun to watch. It had a great OST and I loved the intense chemistry between the two leads.
I LOVED it. It was gorgeous. But there does seem to be a trend with kdramas & cdramas they can't seem to land the ending. Not like they did with Strong Girl Bong Soon one of the very few phenomenal kdramas' that was spectacular from beginning to end & NAILED the ending. The ending needs to be good for the rewatch value to be high.
