Title Melancholia
there is Love and Fortune and Meet Me After School on netflix
There's a lot of good recs on this list. When it comes to Student-teacher relationships (where the woman is the teacher) I agree that Chugakusei Nikki is one of the best. Another one of my faves is Hajimete Koi wo Shita Hi ni Yomu Hanashi.

And rounding up the 3rd is Secret Love Affair.

Um questions for the admirers of the series : Is it okay for an adult to fall in love with a 12 year old too just…
Watching or Liking a series or movie does not mean condoning the actions in it.

Because by your logic, then crime shows shouldn't even be enjoyed by many people. I love "How To Get Away with Murder" but it doesn't mean I agree with people killing each other.

People should be able to separate fiction from reality. My taste in the books I read, the shows I watch does not dictate the moral standard I hold in my personal life. This would be a very restricted view in life.

Of course, there are some exceptions to this rule for example, those who actually consume child p0®n, where it is explicitly illegal and punishable by law, should not be even considered.

Every episode is a cry fest 😭
Well, I'm only 2 episodes in and I already used a full box of tissues.
I don't know how I can handle the rest. I need to take a day break and watch something else before coming back to this. 😅

Normally, I don’t pick up dramas with lackluster reviews, but the premise intrigued me. But I’m such a sucker for noona-romance, so I took the obvious bait, and it didn’t disappoint. I enjoyed the fluff that pandered to my taste, because occasionally I need to take a break from the heavy, sprawling, thousand-lifetimes drama and giggle at silly, trope-y shows to wind down.

This fits the bill, with its cliched meet-cute, and then eventually meet-don‘t (or rather, meet-rewind); from online-friends, to let-down rivals that feel like a little cradle-robbery, to I-hate-you-boss-type of relationship. And of course, who could ever forget the what-a-small-world-scenario in nearly every drama, in where this MC, knows this MC, who knows this other MC, who happens to be this MC, and you’ve got a recipe of coincidences!

Preventing me from fully relishing this drama is Ju Yeon’s grandma, who is so horrible that she makes Maleficent look kind. But at least there’s that bad-hair-wig-band that Ju Yeon’s rocking to, as their songs gave him solace and an outlet to tap out his frustrations.

Not to be outdone in the chemistry department is the other pairing of Sin Won and Ha Jin. Their attempts at trying to separate the OTP are interesting to watch.

All in all, I cannot dive too deep into a drama that is clearly not meant for any Baeksang awards, but if the goal is to provide an escape from reality for at least twelve hours, then this drama certainly has done its job.

Here are my lists: 1. Cunning Single Lady - 7.82. The time we were not in love - 7.43. Bubblegum - 7.24. My Girl…
I did not watch "The Time we were not in Love" because I already watched the Original Taiwan drama "In Time With You" and the Japanese remake "I don't Love You Yet," that I don't feel the need to watch 5 versions of the same drama. Also both of the versions I watched are in the top 5 of my favorite Jap and Taiwan dramas that I don't think any other version will replace these two. But that's just me.

Could someone recommend me romance dramas that are rated lower than 8.0 on this site, because I've already watched…
I have these recommendations.

For Korean Dramas: She Would Never Know (2021), Imitation (2021), That Winter, the Wind Blows (2013), So I Married an Anti-Fan (2021), I need Romance 3 (2014), Goong (2006), My Girl (2005), Personal Taste (2010), Full House (2004)

For Japanese Shows: 5-ji Kara 9-ji Made (2015), Switch Girl (2011), Zettai Kareshi (2008), Eye Love You (2024), Ousama ni Sasagu Kusuriyubi (2023), Proposal Daisakusen (2007)

For Chinese Shows: Accidentally In Love (2018), Find Yourself (2020)

Some of them are older titles. Not sure why, but I find that perhaps the "older" generation, me being part of it, is more stringent and give away less 9 and 10s. But nonetheless, worthy to look at if you have the time.

I admit that I do use the ratings on MDL to weed out what to watch and not to watch. Back in the day, when there are fewer offerings of dramas, I would care less about ratings but because of the abundance of shows cropping up each year, I have to be more discriminate. So for the last 3 or 4 years, I put a limit of not watching dramas under 8.2 with some exceptions (and MDN is one of them).

Depending on the country too or the genre, I will drop the limit. I find, for example, that Japanese titles are rated lower so I will watch something that's 7.8. As for me, rather than watching "mediocre" shows, I expand my library to watch drama offerings from other countries that I don't have the time to watch those rated below the threshold I set for myself.
On Usotoki Rhetoric May 19, 2025
If you are expecting romance in this drama, don’t count on it. A few hints toward the end mean nothing. Although the premise of the show is of an investigative nature, its primary goal is to provide different perspectives on why people lie, and Iwai Soma, as a character, provides this insight in each episode.

Though destitute, Soma does not lack empathy. His astuteness and broad-minded view allow him to understand people’s motivations for lying. He comforts Kanoko, welcoming her abilities instead of shunning them. As each story progress, Kanoko becomes more self-reliant, and realizes that her ability to detect lies only tells one side of the truth (which is what she sees at face-value). Her powers do not guarantee as a deterrent to be duped. The drama tells us that when someone lies, we need context; and lying may not always be self-serving, but as a protection of a loved one.

This show is more than the supernatural, as it also teaches about the trust and faith we put in people, despite not knowing their reasons for lying. It also paints a contrast on how some become a pariah just because they are different, while others welcome strangers with open arms, expecting nothing in return. This drama provides life lessons in 11 episodes that are easy to watch and not over-preachy. A tad slow in some parts, but nevertheless decent.

Tell me you are a KSH supporter, without telling me you are a KSH supporter.
There's no doubt that KSR was a severely depressed person and clearly suicidal and no amount of help or "cure" could have prevented someone who was determined to end their life. But to say that the family did nothing when they were the ones who took her to the hospital 18 out of the 20 times she attempted suicide (with the missing 2 occasions because her mother was unwell) is discrediting their love towards their daughter.

I've had first had experience with people who have attempted and some even succeeded in their idea of self-deletion, and I'm telling you no matter how hard you try, if the person does not even want to help themselves, no amount of cajoling or prodding will change their mind. The only way you will avoid this blame of "not helping them" is to tie them up in chains and to have someone keep a literal eye on them 24/7 because the second you step outside of their sight, could well be the very last time you would see them alive.

I don't care about the difference whether KSR was 15 or 16 when they started dating. That's still too young to be dating a 27 year old man. And yes you are right, gr00ming starts much earlier.

Getting intimate with a minor is not dating, as a kid's consent can't be counted as a consent. It was r4pe.
Even if it's r4pe, the chances of KSH being convicted is very slim to none. Statistics even show less than 4% of r4pe cases in Canada and the US, end up in conviction. And these are first world countries who supposedly have more advanced, or updated laws protecting the vulnerable.

https://www.nbcnews.com/specials/sex-assault-convictions/#:~:text=U.S.%20news-,A%20vanishingly%20small%20number%20of%20violent%20sex%20crimes%20end%20in,an%20NBC%20News%20investigation%20found.

https://www.gbvlearningnetwork.ca/our-work/infographics/sexualviolence/index.html

Here is a closer look at the concept of r4pe in SK, where a patriarchal society is anti-feminist and would hardly allow the rights of women to flourish.

https://igg-geo.org/en/2023/10/30/the-concept-of-rape-in-south-korea/

Right now , there's a big trial going on in Canada where 5 ex-hockey players are accused of s3xual a$$ault. They have plead not guilty and insisted it was the victim who begged the men to g@ng b@ng her and it is her word against 5 of them. With KSR not being able to testify, KSH can say whatever he wants, and it would be very hard to prove. Even if he admits to having s3x with KSR while she was a minor, After all, in the eyes of SK law, he did nothing criminally punishable.

But just because he cannot be held legally accountable, doesn't mean that what he did was right. We need more people to speak up, raise awareness, even if the statistics look very dim. We cannot let injustice reign or let people who are in a position of power, prey on the vulnerable, just because the chances of them getting away with it, are pretty high. It may take a few years, even decades, for existing laws to catch up to the stark imbalance of power, but it's always worth a try.

Thanks for explaining the situation so clearly. The receipts and all were showed but it must be that people just…
So what you are saying is, because the law does not make it illegal for a 12 year old or a 13 year old to be having intimate relations with an adult, that people should just accept it. Just how like there's no law against adultery, it means that people who have been cheated on, should just suck it up and tolerate such behavior. I see where your moral compass lies, and hope that you would also permit your 12 year old child (if you ever have one) to be with an adult, since you see nothing wrong with this situation.

I guess it's easy to hide behind the court of law, when the justice system in South Korea is skewed in favor of the rich and the powerful.

Even if all KSR's family claims were true, the defamation law in S. Korea will rule in KSH favor because of the way that it's structured to give the person whose career and livelihood had been ruined, the advantage.

What a time to be alive, where we show empathy on those who take advantage of the weak, because he was unjustifiably vilified according to your arguments. We are supposed to excuse their actions, because they were necessary to protect their star status, but it's fine to corner a vulnerable person and contribute to their misery.

At this point, why not just go ahead and say that KSH is a martyr and the hail all mighty, we might as well believe you.

These horrible moms abandoning their sons and let another kind man to raise them for over 10 years and later comes to collect them, like they're money they left in the bank for a decade and only withdraw to when it's convenient.

Just because they gave birth to the sons doesn't mean they are owed anything, and certainly the 9 months in their womb doesn't compare to the 10+ years of love and support that was given to them by a selfless man who wishes nothing but for his children's happiness.

It irks me to no end, but I know these type of people exist, especially those who blame their kids for an accidental death that a child has no control over. The person who is ultimately responsible for the sister's death are the parents who left two young kids for days to fend on their own. And she has the gall to "forgive' his son after years of hating him just to make herself feel better.

I remember not being able to stomach this vile wench in the OG. That for me to continue watching just made my blood boil and detrimental to my sanity. San Ho's mom is a watered down version in the Chinese original but still doesn't make me hate her less.

Yes, sadly, GRI couldn't smell the stinky baloney from a mile away. It looks like GM got him by the balls. This is unfortunate for KSR's family and their fight for justice. They are most likely going to be buried under the weight of those lawsuits. I am surprised that they were not advised against filing lawsuits that they couldn't possibly win. Even if all their claims were true, the defamation law in S. Korea will rule in KSH favor because of the way that it's structured to give the person whose career and livelihood had been ruined, the advantage.

In one of the above articles, it has been stated that "criminal defamation provisions are favoured tools of rich and powerful individuals seeking to silence those who raise concerns about their misdeeds"

I am not saying that victims shouldn't speak out against their perpetrators; it just would be an uphill battle, so all the more careful they should be in presenting their evidence, and hope that their case is airtight enough to have a fighting chance in court.

Yes, I am of the belief, that in order to form a more objective opinion, is to look at all sides of the coin. This includes, not picking and choosing arguments that are only favorable to the narrative that I'm supporting. And doing this doesn't mean I'm negating KSH actions towards KSR when she was a minor. I still fully believe that he *DID* groom her and had a hand in her misery, if not her death. But this also doesn't mean that I should be blind to other things that refute these findings, no matter how unsavory they might be. Or else, I would be like those deluded stans who are fanatically devoted to their idols, that they refuse to hear any form of criticism. I would be no better than them.

Yes, unfortunately. For someone who is supposed to be an investigative journalist, he sure did not do any fact checking. Did not even reach out to the SBS reporter, or Won Bin or any of the names dropped in that recording to hear their side of the story.

He was too desperate for publicity that he took the obvious bait.
