Why they all have to be like this - indifferent and cold demeanor,
They just recycle the good old concept that has worked well for their target audience the last 1000 times to save themselve some work and avoid any risks. As long as there are enough pretty faces, enough people will eat it up even if it's just the same story and same kind of relationship dynamic in a slightly different setting over and over again.
"He is perfect in everything, but his one flaw is that he doesn't have emotional communication with the patients." Wow how creative and original I totally haven't seen any kdrama with that kind of male lead before
While I was completely enamoured with the beginning of the drama (until ep 4 and to some degree until 6) the last few episodes were good but didn't feel that amazing anymore. What felt especially weird is how they insisted to make up with the two main toxic people at the end. People have faults and with many they deserve to be forgiven when they show willingness to work on themselves but those two were just the kind of extremely emotionally unhealthy people that will always end up trying to drag you down because they feel insecure about themself. They have proven that they will harm and manipulate others for their own egoistic benefit, showing a lack of basic emphathy and humanity. With some people you cannot make up and the only right thing is to draw clear boundaries and keep them out of your life. Idk.. leaving them behind would have been the better conclusion. This one felt forced and naive. Also small things like the unreasonable disbandment of the club were a bit irritating too.
I still loved the character of Jaewon, the actor did such a good job delivering every small nuance. He really made every face expression and line delivery so captivating. It probably also helped that this guy is really good looking lol.
I can somewhat relate to Jaewon. When you're caught up in that freeze response, everything becomes too much. You don't have any mental capacity left, the tiniest thing becomes a giant rock that suffocates you, and all you want to do is to shut yourself off in a room and talk to nobody because you just feel so numb and empty, like a zombie that's incapable of feeling any connection to the outside world.
Of course, the healthy thing would be to communicate towards others that you need time and space. But that requires that you 1) have that mental capacity to reflect on what is happening, 2) that you recognize your current state and needs, and 3) that you have the knowledge of what to do in this situation. If you're in such a state, having a person trying to contact you again and again feels so overwhelming that your initial reaction is to get resentful and angry towards them because you just cannot mentally handle it. To put it into a metaphor, it kind of makes you feel like a drowning person clings onto you and pulls you down with them into the depths of the ocean. It leads you to desperately push them away like a panicking animal.
Another point: I really liked Jihyun's development. I felt a bit lukewarm towards his character before, but now he feels much more mature and confident. It's really refreshing. It reminds me of the scene with the alcohol where the woman explained how both ingredients balance each other out. At the beginning it was Jaewon being energetic and proactive, now its Jihyun's turn.
Ep 6 was painful but why do I kind of want to rewatch it already...
One weird thing I have with this drama is that in my head, it feels like the couple should not actually work in terms of chemistry and compatibility. The two guys have so different personalities, appearances, and life stories that I cannot imagine that in real life they would actually feel romantically attracted or even just interested in the other one. But when I watch it on the screen in action it works and I'm super hooked? The acting is so good that you just believe the actors that the characters feel all that attraction. It probably helps that the characters just feel so real and the acting is so natural that it throws you right into the story and keeps you there in every single second, despite the sometimes frantic editing.
Omg wth? This is the cutest thing ever. I'm first so glad that it got mentioned on social media so much or I would have totally missed it and also that I started it so late and only have to wait four more days for the last episodes or else this would have been so painful
I'm curious how they will handle Dayeol's relation to archery. I found the webtoon's handling so nice but maybe they're trying to take a more positive and leightweight approach here. Anyways... I can't believe I have to wait for another week yet again arghh
The reason I liked the webtoon so much is the character development and depth and their subtle complexities. Both leads have their own issues and end up helping each other grow and heal. So far this drama does a great job in setting everything up and recreating the feeling of the original. I hope they can keep it up. If bullying is triggering for you I do understand that the first ep can be too much and it's fair to drop it in that case. Taeyeon is indeed made out to be an asshole lacking empathy at the beginning. This kind of behavior he developed as an unhealthy coping mechanism to protect himself of pain due to his childhood trauma is kind of the point of the character. It's up to the rest of the drama if they can manage to do justice to his character setup and convey his issues and development convincingly.
Ep 1 & 2 were fine but from ep 3 three on I was hooked. Problem, I watched ep 3-5 just now and have to wait for a week now.. why.. It's a bit rough around the edges and has a few slightly cringe moments but overall it feels like it has some substance and it's really gripping. Some other BLs I recently tried are smooth and pretty but lack this kind of substance or juiciness. So I don't mind it. Since I usually don't watch Japanese shows I can't judge the acting but I personally have no problems with it at all.
I managed to finish it and would say it is worthwhile watching. I also didn't notice a real difference in quality in the last third of the drama, apart from the very last 10mins which were indeed a little messy but nothing too bad. It looks qualitative the same. The pacing also stays very constant. The main couple starts off as bland with zero chemistry and stays bland with zero chemistry. Yan Zhu makes no sense at the beginning and makes no sense till the end. Second and third couple start off cute and keep being cute. For the plot, if it's political I honestly cannot follow it in general so no idea about it making less sense or not.The only thing maybe is that there are less extensive fighting scenes but that might be due to the plot not requiring so many.
I'm at ep 22 and enjoy this drama very much so far but just how much can the main couple suck XD the guy is obsessed about a girl he met *once* when they were children even though she never showed any interest in him, like why? She doesn't care about him, her character is bland and one-dimensional with the emotional depth of a frying pan, and her only character trait is caring about her master to death for unfathomable reasons or maybe because she apparently has nothing else going on in her life. The ML also behaves childish and toxic towards her, constantly ignores her decisions and boundaries, he guilts her into giving him romantic attention and even lies to her so that he can marry her. He's such a self-centered jerk. I love many of the side characters but those two I swear
Wow how creative and original I totally haven't seen any kdrama with that kind of male lead before
