Chemistry versus writing - somehow feels like everyone loses.
This is the purest form of rom-coms that promises nothing, but romance and comedy and honestly I am perfectly fine with it. I am so happy when romantic comedies do not add murder mystery as a bonus side quest. But, you then need to truly deliver a great romance and comedy, and I don’t feel like we’ve got that here.
On paper I love Kang Ha Gi and Nam Da Reum story. I love how their relationship was written, the internal and external conflicts they had to face before and after they got together. Where is the chemistry though? As much as I loved their story, the on screen chemistry between Kim Hye Jun and Cha Woo Min was so much better.
Truth to be told, well executed romance between fan and idol would be extremely interesting. Especially since they did hit on the issue that usually gets overlooked - how the idolized image fan has might not match who the idol really is. But then we’ve got a decent romance with mediocre chemistry for the female lead and the ceo. I am simply not satisfied.
The plot is rather simple, so they had time to explore all the internal conflicts the characters might feel, but why does it feel like everything was underdeveloped? I had fun, but I was also not emotionally attached to anyone. Good drama is the one I don’t want to move on from, but here I was ready to move on before the last episode even dropped.
On the bright side: I did like how professional work related female leads was. I liked the fangirl part of the plot.
the second couple was cute. The comedy was spot on, and the tiny plot twists to some cliches were refreshing.
But then I don’t get the obsessive ex angle for Lee Chan - kind of led to nowhere. I wish the disbandment was explored more so I cared for the team members and their passion for the music. The moment they hint there is a spy everyone knows who the spy is, so I got frustrated how the characters did not connect the dots till the almost end.
The acting was fine, the production was fine. Nothing stood out either in a positive nor negative way.
Overall, it’s a perfect “I’m tired and need something to pass time, I don't have mental and emotional energy to get too invested" type of a show.
