The writer made the same mistake with Something in the Rain. The other sisters had incredible setup and that could be used for the rest of the series without drifting away from the main theme. One sister was about to become a single mother herself. I'm pretty sure their problems within the society didn't end there, but we saw none of that. We couldn't see how hard it was to raise a child in those circumstances because the plot kept repeating itself. Just like I'm doing right now, and I'm pretty sure you got the idea in the first sentence. Annoying, isn't?

From what I've seen on all seasons, whenever a couple cooks together one of them ends up giving the signal to their counterpart but that's it, and from the screens that I saw it looks that was what happened. This is my first time watching it weekly and I gotta say it's more bearable to binge it so you can go past the BS quickly.
