2nd leads have their own independent loveline. there's a love square (sort of) with the ML's stepbrother liking the FL and one of the ML's friends liking him (not reciprocated but both are catalysts for the break up.) also in the novel, the ML dates other girls (including one of the FL's roommates) before getting together and the FL dates other men after they break up. these other relationships are more from loneliness rather than love.

recently Mango's dramas have been distributed to iQiyi (where I am at least) but I'm hoping Netflix gets this like they did Perfect Match/Deep Affection Eyes

yes that scene was added for the drama but there shouldn't be lots of torture involved (it happens when he still thinks she's a boy.) in the novel, the FL was actually the more controversial character because she kept emotionally hurting the ML but I'm not sure if they'll change that also.

a deaf general/prince investigating the death of his comrades. the novel character is similar to those roles (quiet, gentle) but the drama might have changed it a bit because WXY said he did more comedy here than other roles.

I don't understand why people are oversimplifying this line. Marriage represents more than just romantic love, it's family and community and a future with a possibility of joy. not to replace what she lost, but to help her heal again in spite of it. he's asking her not just to love him but to love herself too. this trope is prevalent throughout all revenge fiction from Hamlet to The Count of Monte Cristo to Batman, etc...that there is collateral damage to a bloody quest for revenge (this is touched upon when PY is surprised that Consort Shu exiles herself. she thought she was digging graves for just herself and the chancellor but it still affected a person she loved and who loved her back.) Heroes in those stories often end up dead or alone in regret, with no satisfaction or forgiveness despite a successful revenge. That's why they're called tragedies.

now we can debate the naivety of this trope but it's a trope for a reason. let's wait for the writers to present their case further. but it feels like a lot of you are saying hatred is more important than justice (because killing the chancellor then would not have been justice, as all the other women who committed suicide in an attempt punish their abusers in this drama can attest to.)

we already have a drama where the roles were reversed (Love Like the Galaxy) and I still see some people call the ML a red flag and that they can never support the romance after he chose revenge over the FL lol.

didn't the emperor imply that she's expendable but the chancellor is not? (he said something like if you step out of line again, I will show you whose Tang Dynasty this truly is.) it connects to the theme that even with all the buffs Peiyi built through the years, she has the same plight as all the women in the palace who are sacrificed for men with power and status.
