sometimes chemistry is also a product of directing/editing. I noticed that most of the actors who I think have interesting faces over there (him, Ci Sha, Jiang Qiming) are always called "rugged" by the noisy majority of cnetz. they just prefer softer features, plus he has a natural aggressive sex appeal that comes across as too strong for their taste. And honestly people just like to pile on the hatred now, it's the internet's collective mental illness. he lost a lot of goodwill from cfandoms after The Double and Yu Zheng's continuous actions of stoking fan wars for hype so it's not surprising that he gets attacked. there was also a melon years ago when SWL sued Huanyu to get out of his contract, that Yu Zheng likes to spread bad rumors/negative publicity about his own artists so that they won't think about leaving him. I still remember the day WXY announced his first luxury endorsement (Chopard) and Yu Zheng decided it was a good idea to get the Perfect Match cast to flood weibo with unflattering bts pictures they took of WXY a few hours later. really, it's a dirty business.
