As much as I love villain and support roles, that’s a bit of a selfish and uninformed take.
Starring in romcoms on big networks pays more and boosts popularity. Just an example - a villain in a drama airing on a web platform may earn amount X while an SML in a tvN romcom may earn 20X or 30X. I know villain roles are glamorous, but they don’t pay as much. Western shows - yes. Riverdale, Cobra Kai, Gossip Girl, The Summer I Turned Pretty, XO Kitty, famously the Twilight movies lol, Kissing Booth, Emily In Paris, Never Have I Ever, etc etc. Love triangles encourage conversations especially involving picking sides, and increase engagement for romcoms. It’s also a tactic to get more people to get curious or want to belong to a side too and start watching.
Alternate Ending (just my reimagining or what I thought would’ve been more interesting):
All the things in Kim household really did happen, Lee Gang was invited in and the voyeurism was real. Professor Heo egged Lee Gang on to make bolder moves and mess the family up. In the end, we find out it was all for a book Lee Gang was writing on Professor Heo’s life and his infiltration into his life and home; about his failed marriage, failed career, jealousy, and his using of Lee Gang to ruin Kim family’s life (which Lee Gang didn’t completely follow through with, or was exaggerating to him). So instead of Lee Gang plotting to enter Kim family’s home, the starting manipulation tactic would’ve been to hook Professor Heo with his stories and enter his home to conduct his voyeurism on him. The Kim family stories would be within the book about Professor Heo, but the focus would be on Professor Heo’s failings, boredom, and desire to upend writer Kim Suhun and his family without implicating himself much.

That’s the irony of it, he said the orphan kid Lee Gang was “boring and not worth writing about”, but his own life was dull as hell too, he was a loser and coveted the life writer Kim Suhun had. Which is why Lee Gang asked him through the final assignment, “Is your life interesting enough to write about?”.

He didn’t, but I meant in Lee Gang’s fictional work I wanted the character to be bolder and more invasive. The wardrobe scene was good 👌🏼 but the rest was a bit uninspired, mostly eavesdropping and watching, not actually ruining lives like in the play.
Fun, but could’ve been darker and more psychological. They focused too much on the “crime” part rather than Lee Gang’s infiltration into and manipulation of the household, which is what I was mainly interested to see. Professor Heo getting hooked by Lee Gang’s makjang a$$ plot is the most boomer thing ever, old people love their soap operas lol. The ladies were fire in this; Han Jieun in particular was really captivating in this role. The motive was a bit ehh. Overall, not a bad watch if you want to binge something fun, fast-paced, and entertaining.
If you have parents and younger siblings, you’ll notice sometimes your parents think “What does my kid even know?” and sometimes the kids think “What does my parent even know?”. But you, as a person in the middle, have seen the efforts and accomplishments of both. This drama reminds me of that dynamic. Chairman Kang is in awe of his daughter’s abilities in business, and Kang Banggeul is unknowingly seeing how capable her dad is, and once was in his youth, in real time. A man who has built and maintained a huge business has skills people (like their younger kids sent abroad) often don’t see firsthand, and he may underestimate just how competent his now grown-up child is. This is an opportunity for them to learn of their competence firsthand.

She was a housekeeper or home manager who suddenly became their stepmom, they refuse to accept it and continue to treat her the way they used to or the way they think she “should” be treated. They also insinuate she’s the reason their family broke up (they imply they had an extramarital affair since before their mom died, which may not be true), so the chairman probably feels too guilty towards his older children to step up for her.
Woomin isn’t sacrificing art either. He chose a villain role in Solo Levelling.

In the script reading for the drama and in the news article I linked, it was revealed Yuna’s character’s love line is with Kang Hoon.
