i think he mentioned in interviews that his books arent really stories, but they're written to mock current events (when he was writing). a lot of people also said that this is why his novels were so popular as people could relate to it compared to a pure wuxia/xianxia novel. that said, all of his novels are in the same universe but ROTCH and LOTCH and HSDS are the only novels that run right after each other. while we can see DGXB legacy throughout all of his novels and the effects of what happened in SDDG did to the skills like how XL18Z became weaker as the full version of the skill was lost

TBH alot of detective Dee movies start off with him pissing the empress off and being sent to solve XX case, or the empress sending him far away so she wouldn't get to see him.
But like I mentioned the fictional Di Renjie is very different from the political powerhouse that he is in reality

she never chopped off his head as she knows he's very capable and he eventually died a noble (Duke, only below the rank of King/Prince).

there is very little to no reliable information about old korean today and academics are constantly arguing about it, but all studies state that old korean is closer to chinese than hangul/new korean/japanese, so what they're speaking is probably current korean.

watching this just to support the actress who was cancelled for being "not pretty". first time i've seen an actress had to apologise for not being pretty enough. crazy world we live in
kind of pointless to read spoilers about the novel for this show as the WN is very, very different and the author kinda stopped updating the novel until the drama got very successful so it wasnt finished the last time i checked. as far as i'm aware, the drama does follow the novel only at the start, setting of characters and major plot points but a lot of things has changed, like how it's a harem novel and all of his wives have become successful through him bringing stuff from modern world, like one of them started a record company
basically the whole "assassin falls in love with her target" trope that's been done to death
