THIS. She says, with ep 9 on 1% for the past 8 hours...
Translators are generally a very, very underpaid profession. Viki are just furthering that into dramas, but it has its basis in manga and anime. It came out a year or 2 ago that Crunchyroll translators couldn't make a living wage with the company and were (and still are) severely underpaid and because they brought the translating company they could keep the rates low. (There is a good ytube vid by The Canipa Effect about this) Much like viki Crunchyroll started by being reliant on fansubs and exploiting the skills of volunteers. They won't pay because the industry has made it so they can get away with not doing so.
Actually I think it should be Mark and Ou Wen since Mark looks more of like a top x😆
I'm not offended. I was just giving context to why people might react negatively if you use those terms so you can decide for yourself how you use them in the future. There is also a difference between how we treat people in real life that we know and how we engage with media and celebrities. I hope my explanation made sense and that my intent was purely to share the context of the terms. Its up to everyone on an individual basis to decide how they use it.
Actually I think it should be Mark and Ou Wen since Mark looks more of like a top x😆
I don't think you are intending to do this, I'm just going to explain what the top/bottom discourse is. If you don't think it applies to your use of the words thats fantastic, I'm just going to explain why SOME LGBT+ don't like the use of top/bottom terms in fandom. Its not which character you think is top/bottom thats the issue. Its that the top/bottom narrative is one that is sometimes used to dehumanises and fetishizes gay people. It is both a valid aspect of gay culture and something that is used by straight people to devalue gay people and their representation. The issue isn't people being a top/bottom, its other people using those terms about other people/characters because it is either fetishization by focusing on the sexual aspect or it reductionist as if a gay character can only be those 2 things. Like you don't often watch a lot of straight media, speculate on what a straight couple prefer in bed then give them a term to refer to that preference as though its a personality trait. Its also extremely rooted within gender and masculinity verses femininity which is its own issue that goes into misogyny and the homophobia towards specifically 'camp' gay men. Here is a good article about it: https://www.gq.com/story/its-time-to-stop-pigeonholing-ourselves-as-tops-and-bottoms Which isn't to say the labels are bad, as I said its a part of gay culture and having these labels does help a lot of queer people in the development of their identity, but I will say there is an issue either on the viewers side or the writers side if the reaction to a gay character or a person is to begin the process to reduce them down to an either or option based on their speculated preference in the bedroom.
Once again I'm not saying this was your intent when you use the terms, and I'm not saying you shouldn't use them in this way, You do you. This was purely if someone else reads this they can know the term is one used within the community but comes with its own baggage and they can decide for themselves how they use those terms.
Anyone knows what the director or writer was thinking? The pediatrician played by Yoo Yeon Seok. Why did they…
I think there 2 main elements to this. 1. Its important for characters to have flaws and things that are juxtaposition to other aspects of their personalities. It gives depth and makes them feel more human, so they are easier to engage with. In this situation we know he is a good doctor so allowing the viewer to see him smoke, something against medicine, is a reminder of his humanity. Its a subtle reinforcement that he is a character who happens to be a doctor rather than a 'doctor character', if that makes sense. 2. I think there is a narrative reason for this. Smoking is an addiction that is associated with stress relief. In season one when he was stressed from having to make a difficult decision, he was also having to be very restrained. He did not feel like he could voice that stress or doubt, so when we saw him smoking it subconsciously gave viewers an indication of his stress. We know people who do smoke in real life smoke more when they are stressed so when we see scenes of him smoking we can get a sense of why the character does it without being outright told. Also its an addiction yes but its also an indulgence, to see him give into the indulgences hints that he is not as committed to entering the church as he is vocalising because he is not yet ready to give up the little temptations. I don't like smoking, but I think it was a very clever and subtle narrative device to show inner conflict... Or I could be over thinking and non of this is right
In the news I hear his girlfriend had a Bipolar disorder.
its estimated that 1 in every 100 people has bipolar disorder, its not something that is rare or scary, it just is a thing that is very misunderstood and villainised. I don't know your intent behind posting this but I hope you remember to consider how your words come across.
It's sad to hear what happened with his GF. I hope he gets a good lawyer, it sounds like the GF had mental issues.
I suggest you take the time to educate yourself on bipolar and depression because your current understanding is ignorant and dangerous. and further villainising mental illness. Please take some time to think critically about your own bias and remember this was a victim and she had a family who is currently grieving. (also its not possible to be self defence with 20 wounds, 1 maybe but 20 is an attack especially with the majority of the wounds being on the chest.)
Why do I love this? Besides other things - There is not a single overreacting, noisy, clingy girl character with…
If you are interested in crime thrillers I would recommend When a snail falls in love. For medical drama I would tentatively say Surgeons, the FL is a quick to anger but does grow calmer and has a great show of growth as the show goes on
Why it wasn't filmed before airing? All dramas should be cuz waiting is so annoying and I hope I won't lose interest
Its very common in Asian productions to film a few episodes in advance then film the rest whilst airing. Its called a live-shoot system. Its a matter of 2 things: feedback and finance. Its so they can adapt to viewer feedback if something isn't work thats why you see an increase in certain character's screen time in a show, or changes in personality ect. Or if a show is popular adding episodes. And 2nd production is expensive, with live shooting they can use the first few episodes they pre-shot to secure investment and sponsors because they already have an audience and a confirming airing time. Its why there is an increase in product placement in later episodes of shows. Non-traditional stories will often use this as they find it harder to secure investment in advance ( i.e. BLs which still aren't mainstream) so they need to prove they can get viewership to investors/sponsors
from what i got to know zhen shuang isn't the biological mother of those children ... and A city court upheld…
why are you bringing up plastic surgery? its not relevant. I don't care if she got plastic surgery. I don't care if he cheated. I'm talking about larger issues and the impact they had on Chinese society and you are talking about a messy relationship.
Let them both be petty towards each other on social media, I don't care, I don't know them. It isn't my relationship. I'm trying to say her actions had larger consequences. They've influenced LGBT+ issues, the legalisation of surrogacy, caused a discussion on the wage gap in China and the effect it had on the entertainment industry.
There is a cap on actors wage since 2018 when Fan BIngbing was found to use Yin Yang contracts. You are right foreign press does need to be looked at critically due to Chinese propaganda and censorship. HOWEVER, that does not mean weibo is trustworthy, you don't know the intent of the people posting on it. And I don't know why you think she was so important or dangerous to the Chinese government that they would actively try an sabotage her, what do they benefit from it? She was the top billed star of a upcoming gov backed propaganda film, why would they try to undermine that by sabotaging her and causing that film to be looked at critically?
Listen you are engaging in a thing called confirmation bias. It doesn't matter what I say or how much evidence I bring you are only going to believe what supports your conclusion. This is going to be my last message because we are arguing different things and this isn't going anywhere. I am sorry someone you looked up to turned out to be like this, whether you believe it or not. I recognise how difficult it must be to acknowledge that.
from what i got to know zhen shuang isn't the biological mother of those children ... and A city court upheld…
you have come to a conclusion and are manipulating things to fit that conclusion, rather than see the evidence and deciding based on that.
Why do you care so much if he cheated? I care that this situation set back years worth of campaigning by the LGBT+ community in China to make surrogacy legal, I care about the larger effect this all had. If he cheated what does it matter, how does it justify abandonment or tax fraud?
Listen, I'm guessing this person is someone you really look up to and I get the desire to see the best in people. It admirable. But, there is a point where when you can't acknowledge how bad the things she has done are then she stops being human and becomes a character. Its a part of stan culture that feasts on parasocial relationship and festers on the social media algorithm that feeds conspiracy.
Acknowledge she did bad things, stop minimising them, let her take responsibly and then she can change. You don't have to support the ex husband to expect better of her.
ALso once again I don't know what test you are talking about and is irrelevant in a surrogacy case anyway. Children don't have to be biologically yours to be your kid or your responsibility .
I hope anyone reading this takes the time to verify for themselves whats being said in this comment section and comes to their own conclusion before furthering misinformation.
As my last comment I want to say that if you want to support her thats fine, I respect that. BUT stan culture is a dangerous mentality.
Fans have put this girl on a pedestal and are forcibly holding her there with walls built of blind faith and misinformation, at some point not thinking of her critically becomes dehumanising.
Sometimes the greatest support you can give someone is holding them accountable, it allows them to learn and grow.
from what i got to know zhen shuang isn't the biological mother of those children ... and A city court upheld…
.... there are only 2 children involved. And there are multiple types of surrogacy some of which do not result in a biological relationship. However, she admitted to entered into a surrogacy contract so these children are legally hers. Also we do not know what type of surrogacy she had nor do we know if these tests happened as this has not be reported anywhere expect weibo which isn't a news site, its a social media where people can lie.
Listen, you obviously aren't doing any research and thats okay. No one is saying you have to, we are just saying don't then spread that information like its truth because its not.
from what i got to know zhen shuang isn't the biological mother of those children ... and A city court upheld…
This is incorrect and not how surrogacy works. She did win a financial lawsuit against her ex-husband HOWEVER, he won the custody battle in the US over the 2 children with Zheng Shuang being granted visitation rights with the condition she under goes counselling. She admitted to undergoing surrogacy and that those are her children. Defend her if you want, no one care, but don't do it by spreading misinformation.
(also once again custody is a civil case so the word innocent wouldn't be used, please look critically at information you get on the internet and do your own research)
So does that mean it will air on Sunday just for ep 11 since it was postponed for so long or did you guys mean…
I wanted to like FUTS but I have a lot of criticisms that come down to I think the director is coming at it in bad faith. But i'm not getting into that. If you are enjoying it i'm glad, because I really did want to like it, I was looking forward to it when I saw the trailer. I'm just now trying to enjoy the shows I do like. I'm looking forward to this, i'm liking y destiny but I thinks thats because I knew what I was getting from it when I went into it, and surprisingly i'm enjoying Nitiman, which feels very old school bl, though I know these aren't to everyone's taste.
I was going to read the 2gether book but the show kinda put me off it, might have to pick it whilst I wait for this next episode.
So does that mean it will air on Sunday just for ep 11 since it was postponed for so long or did you guys mean…
yeah, live-shooting has its issues, I know kdramas are moving away from live-shooting because they want to air in China and so it needs to go through that censorship process in advance, though live shooting is still popular. I know Crash landing on you was live-shoot and also had to deal with delays. I think live shooting is a mixed bag, there are some shows that I feel you can tell the writer was appeasing audiences because the changes make no sense or characters suddenly have different personalities which happened with the FL in Introverted Boss. On the other hand, there are some shows that I think could have used viewer feedback, in fact there is a thai bl series airing right now I think could have done with them listening to issues but I won't get into that here.
I haven't seen lovely writer yet but I have seen 2gether so I saw all those terrible vitamin c thing ads and the drink ads. There were times by the end that 2gether felt more ad than show .
i'm just here looking forward to the next episode of this and hoping it doesn't get delay more.
So does that mean it will air on Sunday just for ep 11 since it was postponed for so long or did you guys mean…
Yeah I find the Viki subbing thing annoying because a. I obviously want people to be paid for their work but also b. I find that its very inconsistent and difficult to see where the subs fall off. I once watched a show where there was 10 minute block in the middle of only 1 episode that didn't have subs but it was an older show so it was unlikely to ever be finished. I feel like Viki could use a thing where if something is less than 100% subbed it shows you on the timeline where the subs are missing just so viewers are prepared.
And yeah its common (though we are seeing a shift away from it) in a lot of Asian countries for them to be filming whilst its airing, its called a live-shoot system. China doesn't do it due to their censorship regulations. But its why you see the writing change in Korean dramas a lot in the middle (or a sudden increase in a specific characters screen time), its because they are adapting their writing to what viewers are saying about the show. Its also why you might see more product placement in the 2nd half of a drama.
(sorry if this is weird, I just know a surprising amount about productions and like sharing it )
