my feeling so far is that the acting could be a lot better BUT i am aware that this is the first role for both…
i’m excited to see them keep approving. they look like very sweet actors behind the scenes so it’s unfortunate that some commenters (on their lives, etc.) are being a bit cruel.

also how Liang Bei Yi’s hair is cut and styled in this show does not do him justice! the way he usually wears his hair is very cute and suits him a lot better!

The actor playing Ouyang Han literally having the prettiest face card out of the whole cast and they tryna tell…
how is it unrealistic? you act as if there aren’t beautiful people who are rejected, haha. also we understand why the person Ouyang Han likes, likes the other character instead (he’s not unattractive by any means but there are other merits that clearly drew him in)

e. not using the names has made it a little confusing but i’m trying to avoid more spoilers no matter how minor haha!

my feeling so far is that the acting could be a lot better BUT i am aware that this is the first role for both leads so i think that’s fair. that aside, the whole vibe of this is exactly what i look for in a modern chinese drama about youth. i find Chinese media really has such a specific atmosphere when it comes to what youth looks and feels like, and this drama nails it. i’m really enjoying it :)

You're giving examples of incredibly good, often awarded movies directed and acted by widely respected and renowned…
“You defend a director without a Wikipedia page” followed by “You equate marketing metrics with artistic craft” is pretty ironic.

“The industry regulator itself just held a symposium calling out exactly these problems: 'appearance worship,' 'traffic-driven popularity,' and the need to prioritize acting skill over face cards”?
-
China also heavily regulates inclusion of reincarnation, time travel, supernatural events, distortion of history, etc. in media. That is to say, the industry regulator itself is known for its chokehold on what “art” is permissible. THAT is losing something. What you’re talking about… If people wanted to watch MORE of what you’re talking about, there would be more. It hasn’t been lost; it’s still there. If the industry regulator wants MORE of it, there are ways to encourage that—but it isn’t by talking down on or blacklisting others genres, themes and tropes. It isn’t by blacklisting actors or rejecting certain appearances. Again, THOSE are REAL examples of something being “lost” (or more accurately “taken”).

These actors whether martial artists or not share one thing: craft over glamour, discipline over traffic rankings.
-
There is still media that prioritises “craft over glamour”. And there is a wealth of media that doesn’t need to “prioritise” because it offers both in abundance.
As for discipline over traffic rankings… It’s too ideal. You’re thinking in a vacuum. In this day and age, when everything moves so fast and everything is so expensive, who has the luxury to put aside thinking of traffic rankings? But again, that doesn’t mean the craft isn’t focused on (that being said, of course sometimes it isn’t the focus—but you’ve brought up SURVIVING EXAMPLES from back when. There were plenty of bad actors, plenty of stupid series, etc. back then too!!!)

It's not about wearing makeup itself, but about a generals in the dramas paying attention to their look on a battlefield.its…
Okay but most girls don’t wear makeup when they sleep. And most men don’t wear makeup at all.

Most generals don’t wear makeup? I’m not sure how many generals in reality film under harsh light but I’m going to guess—none.

At the end of the day, different genres are made to appeal to different audiences. Most people watching something like Pursuit of Jade aren’t watching primarily for action scenes but for romance. There are absolutely shows out there that focus on the action of wars and fighting that use LIMITED (not NO but LIMITED) makeup. You can find those. It doesn’t mean everything needs to be like that. After all, in so many series the least realistic thing is hardly that the characters are all wearing makeup LOL so for that to be where the line is drawn is really too funny

The most basic requirement is that "what is portrayed should be true to what it is [realistic]."
-
I disagree; there are numerous genres and there are numerous audiences; sometimes things should be realistic, sometimes the whole point is that things are NOT realistic. It would be like saying all paintings need to be painted in a hyperrealistic style. Why? What would the purpose be?

Film is art, at the end of the day, and to limit art in such a broad way is truly to miss the entire point of art.

His talent is far from mediocre. Being considered attractive does not automatically mean someone lacks ability.…
hmm… so you think normally it’s true but not this time? i disagree, personally; i think what you’re actually seeing is people commenting on his looks because they find him very handsome AND think he acts well. there are many actors who are very handsome and don’t act well—when that is the case, people absolutely make sure to mention that the acting isn’t good (either just commenting on the bad acting or saying the actor is really attractive but acts poorly).

i do however agree that an actor can have a following without much acting ability. same thing for singers who can’t sing well. but i first saw ZLH in Story of Kunning Palace and i think suggesting he doesn’t act well is a big stretch lol. could he improve? of course. just as most people can improve in their job.

“However, the script, directing and cuts makes it seem as though it was created by a bunch of freshly grad interns.“

At one point in the first episode, half of the male lead’s head disappears due to what must be some green screen issue LOL . Seeing that I feel similarly… It’s unfortunate because the premise is genuinely interesting. Maybe I’ll come back to it when I feel like watching something very (VERY!) easy to watch!

honestly, i wish it were Singto’s character with amnesia. i feel like with Singto and Krist that would be a very different dynamic from what we have seen before. either way, i’m excited :)

Cantonese sounds almost more like Vietnamese than Mandarin? I was so shocked. Anyway, I just added this to my “to watch list” earlier and now we have a premier date—and it’s today?????? Praise the gods 🫡

Jin Yun is so pretty but more than that, his acting as someone who is deaf is totally believable and feels natural.

When I look at their faces, it feels like Jin Yun should be short and Raiden should be tall!

Anyway, I really liked this~
