this director doesnt have the best track record for good satisfying happy endings tho.. he directed oao, remember…
One & Only's tragic ending follows the novel and original script by the writer. One & Only had that ending since the original story is Forever & Ever where the leads meet again in modern world after their tragic separation in the past. The original novel One Life, One Incarnation: Beautiful Bones is Forever & Ever. When they did the drama, they just expand One & Only to be their own drama (in the novel, its only parts that tell us their past) -- but both dramas are written by the original Novel Writer; Mo Bao Fei Bao. Both dramas are faithful to her original works as she is the one who wrote both dramas.
Thank you for so eloquently sharing all the best aspects of this drama.
Thank you! It means a lot for me esp coming from you. π€
I'm rewatching the drama back at the moment π -- surprisingly I enjoy it more this time around. This drama has this relaxing, soothing and light feelings to it that I really like. And I notice more details this time around as well. Like the stage for Fa'n Temple that is full of snake and a temple that grant wishes has been established since the Mirror Demon case. Just like how Fubai Wine or Mrs Cui have been established way way earlier before we can see the effects/reasons of it in the story as it has been planned since early on.
And I really think everytime Xuanye wrote that seal protection for Banxia, it really have karmic consequences on his life or his fate. Like the white hair (not only due to him using Fire Sword) or the reasons why he still remember after using Changle sword when he supposed to forget. Thats why he always reluctant to give that protection to Banxia until he falls for her which can be seen clearly starting with the Puppet Demon case where he no longer reluctant that even Banxia asked why he is more willing to do it for her this time around (inside the horse carriage). Xuanye knew that what he did disrupt the balance of nature for keep protecting Banxia against the demons' influence so we see that effects on him gradually. π’
This is a very good review. You actually write in details what makes the drama so special, which is nuance of…
Thank you! π€π€π€
I actually started the drama worried that it might not have the same quality like RJL's other dramas but found out yeah, its his usual script quality with lots of nuance and subtexts in the script. β€οΈ
That's why I want season 2 or special ep. From ep 1 they are making solutions of every cases problems so they…
For me, a simple Banxia showing up/follow him to the Carefree Land would suffice. With this, it meant the peach talisman has started to work again so they both can travel between the 2 realms. They fix the Carefree Land dying issue and live happily.
Everything is actually perfect in the last 2 episodes. The only problem when the writer decided to make the leads went their separate way which is a disservice to both of their characters and betray the theme of the drama. We know Banxia -- she will follow Xuanye everywhere that he decided to go.
aaaaaahhh it took me so many days to find a good drama to watch and now when I am at 22 episode I am getting to…
The drama is really good until the end (just skip the last 10 minutes since the ending is too illogical). The writer wrote a happy ending for the drama but was rejected. So said she has discussed with production team to release an animation version of her original intended ending. Well hopefully, we get to see it.
I predicted it would be like 7.7/10. But I guess the terrible illogical ending made the ratings dived further down to 7.3/10. They should have shown the initial ratings the drama got before the ending. So, we can see how it impacted the score. I remember when A Journey to Love first airing, their Douban rating opened at 7.5/10 but falls to 6.4/10 after the ending. π

I love, love, love your review here. This is probably one of the best reviews I've ever read. Thank you so much.…
That's so sweet of you. I actually had a writer block when I'm trying to write this review yesterday. So your kind words really made my day. π€β€οΈ
i agree it felt totally out of character for them like literally two episodes before you have ban xia crying to…
Exactly. They really behave out of characters, I dont know how to say it but its awful. Why would she literally say she will follow him everywhere only not to do it. It seemed like the ending is written by someone else -- not the same writer who actually has a vision and has set up her vision since the beginning of her drama. How could you write a 2 episodes that delved on how everything works out in that timeline due to cause-effect sword that Xuanye used. Then showing us how their love defy all those things. They made him remember since he's small (how cruel!), then they made her remember (how cruel as well), they made the old man said to Banxia 'GO GET YOUR MAN!!' and then give us that ending. lol
If this not awful writing, I dont know what else could top this.
I take pride for all tragic endings for all RJL's dramas (Tang Dynasty, Autumn Cicada, One & Only and Love of Nirvana) since they are always very well written and make sense. But this one, zero sense. I cant even cry since I'm so mad. π
"The Writer that purposely wrote something tragic just for the sake of tragedy. "totally agree! She messed up…
In Thousand Years for You, they actually show he survived at the end and the FL found him. It might not an elaborated happy ending but it shows that they are together at the end.
But this one, takes the cake of a really crappy ending hahaha.

I agree. I think the ending is just too horrible and didnt make sense and doesnt even follow the overall tone of the drama. So now I'm writing my own ending in my head and I actually feel much better. :D

Hopefully, it can served as consolation and good memories for this amazing show.
