You'll need a VPN though and there are no english subtitles. There are Japanese subtitles though and you could use Google Translate's camera function to help you
I tried getting into Thai BLs but I have to say the quality was really disappointing⦠from what Iāve watched…
Same! I have been trying to get into Bad Buddy after hearing so much hype about it, but (maybe it was cause I had heard so much praise about it) I thought it was just very meh
After watching Utsukushii Kare, I guess I just had higher expectations on what a good show is
Why do you say heās not an idol? Heās managed by LDH which likes to āmarketā their talent as artists, but their marketing and everything else is 100% idol. Not to the extent of Johnnys maybe, but itās clear heās still an idol.
the important s*x scene is done quite tastefully but it's not the same for obvious reasons, but it made me blush sooo hard. like the smile I had on my face when the morning afterwards scene is revealed š¤¤.
if you are really impatient and don't mind being spoiled, go through the #ē¾ććå½¼ hashtag on twitter, there are already gifs of the said scenes I am referring to. But personally, I would wait so you can experience it yourself in HD for the first time and scream in excitement like I did.
I know that many of us here are keen for Season 2, so if you are in a financial position to, please consider supporting the show officially at: https://www.movic.jp/shop/r/r100335/. Official merch starts at „200 JPY (less than $2 USD) and they are only taking orders up till 5th January.
As we know, the show's viewing figures aren't amazing in Japan, so it's really important that its merchandise sales are better if we want a second season. If you want the 84-page photobook, that can be purchased here at https://chara-info.net/utsukushiikare/ for about „2200 JPY (less than $20 USD).
I'm not familiar with how things are handled in Japan or if this has already been discussed somewhere. Any thoughts…
Judging from social media posts, the most positive reaction internationally has been from China. However, seeing as they do not have an official distribution partner in China, they are not able to benefit from the popularity of the show there as most of the fans will just be watching the show illegally. I think someone posted below that it ranked #1 in Weibo's discussion chart for TV shows so it's a shame that they can't make any money off its popularity in China. Hopefully the fans in China will buy the official merchandise.
Outside of China, they have partnered with WeTV for Thailand/Indonesia/Philippines but when you look at the WeTV rankings, Utsukushii Kare does not ever break the top 10 for those regions.
They have partnered with Drama Korea for South Korean distribution but I've not seen that many reactions from Koreans fans so don't think it's that popular, but I could be wrong. I remember Cherry Magic being particularly popular with Korean fans when I was looking through social media.
Outside of those regions, the show is distributed officially via GagaOOlala but again, the social media reaction from English speaking fans has been very little when you compare it to other BLs. Starting from last week, the show is being distributed on Viki so hopefully this will bring in more fans from around the world, but so far the show does not seem to be that popular on Viki.
As far as I know, official distribution with overseas partner is the only way the show is capitalizing off its international audience.
Fans can show support by: - engaging with their social media channels (watching the videos on the official MBS channel, using the #ē¾ććå½¼ hashtag when talking about the show on Twitter, leaving comments and likes on the SNS of the official UK page/the actors' and director's pages, creating content on TikTok etc.) - streaming the show on the official platforms for your region - streaming the show's OST on Spotify etc. - using a VPN to stream the show on the tver,jp website - though most importantly, will be buying the official merchandise from the show
I know the show has mini shorts and BTS clips with HiraKiyoi couple on an app (Smash) they've partnered with though: https://twitter.com/utsukare_mbs/status/1474066740774850560?s=20

Japan > Taiwan > Korea (very hit or miss) > Thailand
the only thing which is explicit is what is inferred from the last scene.
Use a Japanese VPN, happy watching š„°
