I wanted to love this so much but unfortunately I'm kinda disappointed. This is bound to be a hit anyway considering it's Kim So Hyun, so they immediately have an advantage. But replace the actors, take away the fancy outfits, have a lower budget cinematography and low budget music, the story left is lackluster. I understand that this series is supposed to be character driven instead of plot driven, but it still didn't feel strong for me. The plot halfway becomes convoluted, the character specially KMY is highly exaggerated. The only saving aspect for me is the brothers' relationship, it was heartwarming.
woah the official TV viewership ratings are out. It started with 3% and ended with an almost 7%. That a huge success for cable tv and very late timeslot. Really well deserved! This series is almost flawless. We are only left with a few details to nitpick about because it set the bar really really high from the beginning. But nevertheless exceeded all expectations, definitely the best this year and will be included in my all time top 10. It's currently my All time top 2.
PS. Friends, pls leave a good rating here in MDL so it gets more attention. ♥️
I know not many will like the whole amnesia plot that is super duper clichéd in dramas. But here i actually get…
Exactly! We have the same interpretation on why amnesia was the best way for him to remove any doubts about the genuineness of his feelings. 14 yrs of building the facade of a perfect guy in front of JW is a hard habit to break. At some point he will again question whether his finally acknowledge feelings were simply mixed with guilt. By being purely Hyunsu, he will not have these preconditioning and understand that his feelings were truly his own. He will get his memories gradually anyway, but glad JW will still get to know this side of him. :)
So, just to make sure, he doesn't fully get his memories back, but little by little, he's remembering what his…
Yes. He's gonna get all his memories back. And all the while he can be with his family as the real Hyunsu without any influence of the 14yr Heesung persona. We must remember that although he has genuine feeling for Jiwon he was still literally making an effort to build the facade of a perfect guy in front of her. By having the amnesia he can finally be his real self and Jiwon will get to know that side of him. I had mixed feeling about the amnesia in the beginning but thinking about it deeper made me realize it was the best possible ending for him.
I'm having mixed feelings about the last episode. I found myself frustrated about the writers choosing to use…
I had the same feeling in the beginning but understood why it was necessary for Hyunsu. I wrote my thoughts in the forum section, don't know if that will convince you haha
Everybody is praising both actors and I can only agree. Lee Joon Gi's micro expression changes were so thrilling...I…
1) Other than being an introvert I think he is pretty normal. He just have a wrong assumption about himself as everyone else judged him maliciously. Other than her sister, the whole world literally turned against him (including Moojin who was supposed to be a friend). Even the diagnosis of that child therapist has been revealed to be incorrect as she did not dig deep into why Hyunsu was behaving the way he did. He feels emotions although he couldn't process them properly as he made himself believe he was abnormal. He basically conditioned himself to believe what the others had said on what he is. 2) Jaesop brought it to an expert where they can retrieve the files.
Altho thrilling, I'm glad the director did not put your ending haha. The story also heavily revolved on family and love not just the thriller, it would have broken many hearts.
EPISODE 16. FINALLY DONE! WHAT A RIDE THIS DRAMA IS. STILL OVERALL EXCEEDED EXPECTATIONS.I had mixed feelings…
So they definitely tricked us by posting those wedding photos as if they were future scenes. At first I got a bit sad that they chose the amnesia cliche. But going thru the episode made me realize how well executed it was and how integral it is for Hyunsu's character. It was a literal REBORN. He finally really got to live as his true self and have feelings that were not tainted by the fake persona he built for 14 years. Everything that he will experience from now on are raw undiluted feelings where he wouldn't even question it's genuineness. His memories may have been gone but his whole being remembers his family. I love the parallels they made between the present and the past, it's like they relived the moments but now they are exclusively for Hyunsu to experience (not shared with his Baek Heesung persona). The way the script echoes their original script from their first kiss as Jiwon and Heesung and to now their first kiss as Jiwon and Hyunsu. As well as asking if Eunha will like him the first time meeting as Hyunsu, similar to him asking the same question as Heesung when Eunha was born.
It's also implied based on the wedding flashback that they will marry again. And seems like he will gradually remember the 14 years. They robbed me of that dinner scene between Haesu, Moojin, Jiwon, Hyunsu and Eunha though. T.T
My greedy self self wanted the ending to be longer, but in a way I knew it was already perfect.
And that scene where Eunha asked about her parents divorce made me cry. Poor baby, but although her Daddy couldn't remember he still buys egg tarts for her.
EPISODE 16. FINALLY DONE! WHAT A RIDE THIS DRAMA IS. STILL OVERALL EXCEEDED EXPECTATIONS. I had mixed feelings in the beginning on how the plot went. But as it progressed I see how it was brilliantly executed and why it is essential for the character and it's closure. I love the parallels that they have made between the past and the present, only then can you appreciate the direction it went. It was a satisfying ending. I'm gonna miss them. More thoughts in the spoiler comment.
Just thinking about how bold the production team is to put 'THAT' in the episode 16 preview. They didn't even bother to mess with the viewers feelings and capitalize on that to maximize excitement and ratings. Goes to show how confident they are on leaving an impact without resorting to the usual melodrama tropes/ending.
Yes, of course we know they are innocent. But the thing is they need proof. Jiwon's words and the other detective's opinion do not hold much weight to the public/jury. What I'm saying it realistically speaking they still have work to do to prove innocence. We are already bias because we watch the narrative with everyone's POV and we know hard facts as we witnessed it. The rest of the world as just like the villagers with there preconceived judgement. You do remember at that point Hyunsu was not even confirmed a killer/accomplice yet they did not even think twice to accuse this highschooler of killing the foreman. And as JW pointed out to JungMisook, murder is murder regardless of the circumstances
Yes. But we know this as viewers. The police do not know the circumstances of the death of the foreman. Neither does the sibling have any proof that Haesu killed him as self defense.
Yes. That's what I think so too. It's the side of the head that's why there is also blood. It is still the head but doubt it hits the brain badly. Otherwise HyunSu will not be looking healthy like that in the preview haha
idk but the parallels between do hyun so and jung mi sook's husband almost killing the supposed accomplice for…
True!! Jung Misook will be devastated to know what her husband did. I was crying and admired her so much when he held onto HyunSu so he wouldn't turn into a murderer.
I really wonder what show was that, just pure curiosity, I'm not trying to be rude.
I also did not like IONTBO that much. I mean it's not bad but I could definitely name a lot more series who deserves a much higher rating. I just accepted it the way it is as it is character driven, the plot doesn't made much sense and exaggerated on a lot of points, but they obviously have bigger budget and better OST and the actors will by default attract viewers even if story is trash. But yes FoE is so soooooo much better, it's just that Lee Joongi goes for mature storylines which do not target a wider audience, therefore we do not see this show trending in twitter or something like that. It's their loss tho. This show is a gem.
Looks like he did get hit in the head but realistically speaking some people still do survive depending on how bad it is. Seems to me he fell into coma and was put into trial after waking up. If the whole truth comes out he will probably get away with it, or at most minimal sentence for covering a crime and faking identity. Our HyunSu will finally get to live as HyunSu without any judgement. T.T
You know I feel slightly upset that this do not have a wider audience as other 'overrated' shows. I hope Netflix picks it up so that it gets more recognition internationally. This is one those shows that proved it's quality rather than rely on mass hype. Hopefully we bring the rating up and put it in the top shows where it rightfully belongs.

That scene was funny, sweet and melo.
Best Appa ever!
