Um, all the factors you listed contribute to making something a hit. You can apply that to any popular movie or…
Yes, that is what I said, that it is a hit because of those factors. I am not refuting the fact that it became a hit. Wnat I'm saying is that the story isn't strong. I do not rate series highly just because it has a good visual or the actors can be veterans but story is crap. The plot and story flow matters a lot to me. Something that even if it is merely translated into a book it still speaks to me, sadly this is not one of those. This is subjective ofcourse. Turn Titanic into a book and I would still say it's a good story, and I do know low budget films which are rated highly because of great plot and storytelling.
I kinda know what you mean, I understand those who do not like the ending but still appreciate the brilliance of this drama. But there few commenters who probably thinks it's cool to go against the majority (who appreciated this series despite our divided opinion on the ending) and spew hate. But usually I find their comments baseless. Just short whiny sentence how much they hate bla bla bla. No really substance and explanation what made them say so. Makes me think they did not really watched it or understood it all. There's only very few of them though, probably some hard fanatics of other series released this year.
I have a question...the tape recorder where hee seong said to the witness "Ahjumma, Don't poke your nose where…
It wasn't recorded in front of Hyunsu and Dominseok. It was recorded right after Dominseok died while Heesung was in the bar. As you know he was also a special customer hence the bartender is carving ice for him. The background sound triggered Hyunsu's memory of the time he and his Father went there. Also Heesung had nothing to do with the Foreman's death, he just said that to scare the witness.
I have no problem sith the ending. Do Hyun Soo was a person who was lost to himself. Because his wife and daughter…
Agreed. This was even the statement made by the Director. I do not understand why others fail to see it this way. Anyway, it's all subject to individual interpretation, I just hope they don't bring the ratings down in here.
Okay, I see we are now getting divided opinions and also on the ending.
I kinda came to the conclusion that this is actually best appreciated and understood if you had watched it while it was airing (having weeks break in between to give time to think about it deeper, have all these sort of theories etc than just going episode after episode and seeing only it's facevalue).
I had observed the comments while this was airing, everyone watching it during it's runtime was very satisfied with the story. We had divided opinions about the ending but we do not see it affecting the overall quality of the show. Each and every twist was refreshing and a surprise for us. The thrill of going each week with a new theory and analyzing the characters and their motivations was a huge part of the viewing experience. In fact the only reason we were nitpicking on the smallest details is because it was too perfect especially in the beginning and we only have these little things to complain about.lol
I guess the experience will be different for those who are gonna binge-watch it and see all these spoilers out already. They go about starting this series wondering why others are calling it masterpiece, you already have a preconceive idea about it , you become hypercritical and therefore your brain starts to negate this idea whenever you see something not to your liking. By going one episode after another also is prone to missing details as it is too fast paced. It's like quickly skimming on the story without realizing that the characters are going through different mindset and struggles in each episodes. Like seeing Hyunsu cold and then after a few hours of binge-watching he's crying like a baby.
I really really hope people actually see the messages the writer and director are trying to convey and not just see it for the action and romance sequence.
I STAND BY MY WORD THAT THIS SERIES IS A MASTERPIECE! IF YOU'RE SOMEONE WHO IS WONDERING WHETHER TO WATCH IT, YES DO WATCH IT AND STAY AWAY FROM THIS COMMENTS BOARD WHILE DOING SO.
It was getting avg for a little while and reached above avg by the end but not particularly great.
I think it actually did pretty well considering the very late timeslot and as it is cable tv. It has 6.something rating in the end going against the 2% of the other shows on the same timeslot.
Same here. I need a breathtaking dark/suspense/ romance drama to replace "Flower of evil" in my heart. But the…
He wasn't complaining haha He was just being his playful self as ever. Yeah definitely. I think Viki still got exclusive rights to FoE, maybe after some months it will be in Netflix too. If Netflix got it first I bet it would have exploded even bigger and trended every episode.

OMG!!!! For real????? Do we need to sign a petition anywhere? I feel so happy!!! Let me share it to the FoE page too. :) Funny tho on Joongi live some weeks ago so many people are commenting asking for Scarlet heart and iljimae season 2. He replied ' why are you obsessed with season 2? If FoE ends well , are you gonna ask for a season 2 too?" Haha
But to be honest, the ending is already perfect but I could use a few extra episodes with their happy moments.. A good idea for a season 2 though is a spinoff of the Detective team with Moojin tagging along . It gonna be a thrilling and comedic at the same time lol.

Ahhh lucky you, I want to erase it from my memory and watch it and experience the whole thing again. haha
Yes. I see it more like Inuyasha and Seshoumaru thing. (If ever you know that anime). They don't get along but probably in the end work together towards a common goal or enemy.

yess! It is also one of my all time favorites now! I hope Joongi and Chaewon pair up again on another amazing project. They are definitely one of the best actors in Korea.
As for "Tale of the nine tailed", I hate to admit it but I do not think it will be an amazing story (atleast for me). Seeing how comedic the teasers are. Seems like it will be one of those high budget series who will get a lot of hype but no real substance in the story. This is just my feelings. I'm really really hoping it is not like that and will actually surprise us.
I really wanna know your top 10!! Can you tell me? I really want some good dramas to watch
Oh we have same taste then. Yeah, it's so hard to find good series with real story depth nowadays. T.T That's why I get hyped when I find something new that I really really like. For this year I only have Flower of Evil. Hopefully we get new quality dramas again. :)
I'll check this turkish series. But I must admit I haven't seen one before and feels strange watching turkish drama and turkish guys hahaha Must be the same feeling when westerns watch asian series for the first time and see all these 'feminine looking' oppas.haha
1) Other than being an introvert I think he is pretty normal. He just have a wrong assumption about himself as…
Yes, it's true his normality level is limited to his family. But I do not know if outside these people it's really ASPD, he does feel. He got angry even in the last episode with the witness. I think he just lacks some level of empathy towards others, when he sees other people's emotion (not understanding how certain things made them react that way) although he could mimic it, he couldn't really feel it. I would say he is capable of first hand feelings (those natural coming from within him and his own reaction), but not secondhand feeling (those that require you to empathize). Lol if that even make sense. Or is this the definition of aspd? Haha
Okay, the synopsis sounds promising. I hope they keep it really dark, like when you say Lee Yeon and Lee Rang are heartless, make them really really bad and then just redeem them properly eventually. But looking at the timeslot it's probably gonna be watered down. Anyway, still looking forward to it after the end of the amazing Flower of Evil left a hole in my chest. TVN is really killing it this year!
As much as I love Park Bogum, this show is so far bland. The script also doesn't sound natural. I have a feeling though that there will be a huge time skip and a turning point for all the characters. I will still continue watching in hopes that it's leading to a better storyline.
Does anyone remember in the initial episodes Ji Won tells Hyun Su that she had a complicated past? What was that…
There was really nothing on Jiwon's statement about the complicated past, I guess it's just her trying to be interesting for HS and the writers trying to give the viewers wrong leads regarding the mystery. Poor JW, no madeup story would have topped your husband's complicated past. haha And I agree with BeefyJerk about the Mother's story.
I really wanna know your top 10!! Can you tell me? I really want some good dramas to watch
Yes, for sure! Here's the list with some added comments :)
I watch a lot lot ASIAN dramas, enjoy all these mainstream series too (DOTS, CLOY, IONTBO, GOBLIN etc *no offense meant to fans*) but somehow find them easily forgotten. The list below are the ones that I would say left a lasting impression on me. Hope you find something to your liking! :)
1.MARS (Taiwan) - 2004 drama but nothing so far had booted this out of my top1 list. Similar to FoE, it has dark vibe into it but became poignant as it progressed. For a 2004 series, it has amazing cinematography and top notch acting as well. Amazing plot, thought provoking concepts and satisfying ending too. I think the only reason Korea hasn't remade this yet is because they are not ready to present it's heavy subject matter to the Korean public.
2. FLOWER OF EVIL (Korean) - you know why.lol
3. SCARLET HEART RYEO (Korean) - this is depression for sale.haha Even after all these years I still find myself always listening to the soundtrack and watching clips. I couldn't bring myself to rewatch it though (it still hurts T.T). I guess I will never really find closure for this.
4. TEN MILES OF PEACH BLOSSOM / ETERNAL LOVE (Chinese) - first Cdrama I watched and I was obsessed! Watching this genre will need some getting used to. Be ready for 50+ episodes. The first 13 will seem ridiculous but hold on to it, as soon as the turning point starts it's gonna be amazing, heartwrenching, romantic and everything in between. Its one of those series where I didn't find the lead attractive in the beginning but you will undoubtedly fall for him later on (it's call plastic surgery acting I heard haha)
5. ASHES OF LOVE (Chinese) - same genre as Eternal Love. First half seems like a silly comedy but gets heavy later on. I always love stories where there are no lines between good and evil. If you go on forums for this series you will see a lot of deep discussions about the characters (specially the "villain").
6. BECAUSE THIS IS MY FIRST LIFE (Korean) - it's one of those either you get bored or you truly appreciate drama. You will appreciate it maybe if you're in your late 20s or early 30's. What makes this special is not because of the story (heck I don't even remember the story anymore), but the feelings and self reflection it brings out in the viewers while watching these relatable characters.
7. REPLY 1988 (Korean) - it's that feel good series. Family, friends, life. Nostalgia at it's finest, makes you wanna go inside the screen and be part of their lovely neighborhood haha
8.KLUEN CHEEWIT (Thailand) - hate to love story done right. Watching Thai drama also needs some getting used too. Production is not in par with Kdramas but the main couples acting is also top notch and on point. The chemistry was amazing. Although I would have preferred they eliminated subplots, subcouples, exaggerated evil villains, the main couple still made series unforgettable for me.
9. AUTUMN CONCERTO (Taiwan) - oldie but goodie. Bad boy meets good girl, amnesia, babies and angsty stuff in between.
I kinda love and hate this. To be honest the plot and the story flow was very illogical, but the chemistry between the main leads was amazing. I wish Lakorn production come to quality closer to Kdrama productions. The lead actors (specially Mark) can definitely match the actors on Kdrama when it comes to skill. However, the editing of this show is really bad. The scenes were cut awkwardly and sequenced in a weird way that sometime you have to pause a bit to rearrange them in your head so the flow make sense. I wish they also lessen unnecessary subplots or subpairing (it's kinda cringey and annoying at times), the main couple story line is already enough and satisfying.
Also Heesung had nothing to do with the Foreman's death, he just said that to scare the witness.
