Because that damn servant went to blabber about the « grievances » that his master suffered, when the said master wasn’t complaining himself Second : his master is being arrogant enough already, (which is quite being of disservice to him in his romantic affairs) and he’s basically encouraging it! And he’s often disrespecting the Li family. For every mistake his master did with KN, he has ten things to say to pretend it’s the Li’s fault ! His master looks for trouble first, for basically no reason (other than to get his gal’s attention) by making the mom lose money and KN replicates by doing the same : « Master, how cunning this girl is ! » (but your master isn’t though ?) His master decides to play hard to get and to make her beg him for help instead of helping directly when his gal is harassed : « Master, i don’t think she will, she’s so arrogant ! » (and your master is being humble, maybe ? » The gal and everyone learn that his master’s friend is the one who instigated this to « avenge » his friend and she’s led to believe his master commandated it : « Master, she’s so fierce and ungrateful ! You shouldn’t have helped her ! » (…Really ? You won’t even consider the fact that your big mouth instigated a mad dog to run wild, but even though that girl has good reasons to be angry, she’s « ungrateful » ? If it were me, it’s not just the tea i would have poured on his head, it’s the whole lunch ! Moreover, i do believe that not only he, his master also had faults : the whole thing originated from the master wanting to « give a lesson » to the female lead » and from the servant being meddlesome and rude, his master had been difficult through and through, the girl had been in troubles because of them and he was surprised that she wasn’t grateful for cleaning the mess they caused and would have let her marry a pig, if it were up to him, not feeling any guilt that his careless words brought 2 guys to try to push an innocent girl to a pit of fire) … Yeah, i’m sorry, this was long but i had a lot on my chest to come out!

This would have been better if they didn't treat Yan Zi Xian's character, who's supposed to the SML, like the ML in every point : his backstory is much more interesting than ML, his acting and scenes overshadow him, he has much more screentime than him, more scenes with FL, their scenes, story and chemistry are much more intense and his personality is much more interesting. Not only all that, but ML is kinda annoying : for half of the drama, he's a cutiepie but he suddenly turns into a cunning sociopath, which made no sense, because the change was too sudden. And finally : I didn't feel his love story with FL, it felt forced and the two of them had no chemistry
By the way : in that episode where she's taken hostage on a ship and he has to shoot an arrow at her assailant who's holding, and the arrow shoots through her earring, and he then keeps her earring pendant... I can't be the only who remember the director's A Familiar Stranger when seeing this, right ?

It’s amazing how you can feel the style of Kunning Palace’s directors here : some dialogues but most specifically, the use of light, angle, and wind in some scenes reminded me so much of it that i immediately guessed it was them before even checking the scenes between the leads also remind me sometimes of Jiang Xuening and Xie Wei (and not because it’s Bai Lu here)
Also, it’s really HARD to root for female lead : I get that she wants revenge and I do like a female lead who’s a bit manipulative (like in City of Streamer) but not THAT manipulative and selfish, i hate how much she's willing to drag male lead into it, despite knowing that he is totally innocent and having ‘fallen for him” (although i hardly think she loves him, seeing how much her revenge is more important go her than his well-being) : come on, she repeatedly tried to manipulâte him into killing his father ! I mean, if she truly loved him, she wouldn’t be willing to use him against his father and turn him into a patricide ! I mean, i don’t like when a male lead uses and manipulâtes a female lead like that, i don’t see why i would like it when it’s the opposite This is a short-length drama do this probably gonna have an illogical, ridiculous, nonsensical happy ending but the only ending that would satisfy would be to see her end up alone and miserable
