Xiao Yu doesn't try to steal the flower in the novel and Jinbao's disappearance gets explained in the sequel novel.…
Just to add: in the novel she does hide the flower to keep it from being stolen. She doesn't explain how she knows about it though - just that she's been paying attention to her brother's affairs π€·π½ββοΈShe didn't hear about it from Jinbao anyway - he had his own stuff going on
Where was Jinbao tho? Was he the one who told Xiao Yu about the flower? If not where was he and how did Xiao Yu…
Xiao Yu doesn't try to steal the flower in the novel and Jinbao's disappearance gets explained in the sequel novel. They've made a couple of small changes in the series.

In the novel he recognizes him right away when he sees him. In the sequel (that explains their story in more detail) he uses notes he'd made about his moles and birthmarks to confirm it's him.
This is the first time the characters meet in the series. The characters' backstory hasn't been addressed yet. The bracelet and beads were added for the series - they aren't in the novel.
I heard that Suyin only loves Xiaobao as a little brother in the novel
There's a lot of speculation on how Su Yin may feel internally - but in the novel he is never openly romantic towards Xiao Bao, and as we also saw briefly in this episode, his concern is for him to get well, settle down and marry a woman etc.
Thankful today that I live in a society where I am able to openly consume and respond to LGBTQ+ media, without my viewing decisions and opinions on them being subjected to state enforced censorship and potential monitoring. Everyone is entitled to an opinion, but it is important to remember that being able to form and then express that opinion is a privilege sadly not afforded to everyone.

As for Su Yin - his grandfather is the third uncle of the Emperor.
