I don't quite see the 10 Things That I Hate About You inspiration. Does anyone notice them? Although I do get…
To help with the comparison I'm going to edit the synopsis from google:
10 Things I Hate About You (The Heartkillers)
As soon as Cameron(Kant), a newbie at Padua High School(a tattoo artist and police informant), finds Bianca(Bison), he falls in love with her(sleeps with him and then has to investigate him π ). However, to date Bianca(Bison), he must first get her older sister(his older brother) Kate(Fadel), a mean feminist(hitman), to date someone.
That's the main crux of it π π - though there are some other small similarities as mentioned ^
Interesting analysis! I, too would be curious to see how they handle it. I'm a little bit confused? Did you think…
When the series was announced as a Thai production, it was my understanding that it would be uncensored (without the fades/cuts that had obscured much of their relationship in the original series and without turning it into a bromance either). But in the end this series was rather odd, in that they openly alluded to the characters' romance and intimacy, but, evidently due to age restrictions, were not able to realistically demonstrate that relationship to the audience (fake kisses, fade outs etc). So effectively it ended up as a censored production. (I hope that answers your question..?)
I haven't watched 'Stay With Me'/'Stand By Me' despite having heard good things about the show. I can appreciate subtlety, and I'm happy to see both innocent and passionate romances played out, but 'bromances' (in particular, 'censored adaptations of same-sex original work') to me at least, are just indicative of a wider issue - (namely the erasure of LGBTQ+ characters and stories from media representation), and as good as they may be, I can't bring myself to watch them. (I did watch 'Advance Bravely' after finishing the novel... the level of frustration I felt though was wayyy too high to watch another after that π )
Perhaps Bai Luoyin and Gu Hai were just too toxic to get a faithful adaptation made... but I also would have loved to see a continuation of the original series. Timmy Xu would've made a great soldier...
As someone who's read the books and enjoyed the original series, I was really excited to be seeing an uncensored version of the story, even if it was a Thai production (rather than a Chinese language production). I think the series itself was entertaining, and that Mac and particularly August, did a decent job; but by casting an underage actor they effectively 'self-censored' themselves, and made the story into something different.
Although we're dealing with young characters they experience incredibly mature themes throughout the novel ; sometimes age-appropriate casting is not always the appropriate choice in adaptations like this. (the casting for The On1y One was a great choice imo, and they're 29 and 30 at the time of writing this)
I'm not sure if the second series will go ahead, what with the backlash the first season has received, but I would be curious to see how they'd handle it.
Guys does someone know whats yhe synopses? And chris's role here?
Translated from Weibo:
"This drama is a big love drama, telling the story of six brothers and sisters who are forced to face the shadow of their past families after a social news event is exposed. As their childhood trauma is revealed step by step, the six people can still support each other, choose to believe, not be kidnapped by tragedy, and stand out in different fields and live a wonderful life. "
