Can someone explain the political intrigue part of things to me? Whose son is Huai'En and what's his beef with…
He's the son of the 'Second Prince' (the Emperor's brother) and Concubine Xue (the Emperor's concubine). The second prince was plotting a rebellion after Concubine Xue was killed - partnering with her Xue family. The Jin family were roped into their dirty dealings to make some fast money then later realised and understood the Emperor was going to take all their wealth (dirty money) away so were planning to hide their riches and run away. The Second Prince knows they killed the Xue family (the family of his only love) but also wants their wealth to fund his rebellion. So he sent Huai En to find the secret account book so he can get his hands on the money first. I tried to simplify but it's still quite long lol

There's another translation for torpedo which is 'aide-de-camp', so personal assistants basically. Not sure how exactly it gets there but I'm guessing that's what they meant! 😅
Okay so I have questions and I hope someone can answer them. 1. Is Zongzheng Yuzan the father of Huai En ? The…
I'll try my best without getting too spoiler-y :)
1. Yes. 2. He primarily wants to take the throne - he tried already when he was younger and was exiled/went into hiding. He's obsessed with Huai En's mother but has always wanted power. 3. The account book is proof of some dirty dealings that made a lot of nobles rich under either the old or the new emperor (can't remember which...) 4. The Xue family knew about the account book and the chamber of commerce (the Jin family and other nobles) suspected the Xue family would tell the emperor so decided it was safest to get rid of them.
I don't understand why MDL says that this is a thai drama while it's clear that this isn't. The actors are from…
From the production company's instagram:
"Our series is a Chinese ancient costume drama adapted from the IP of the well-known Chinese author Shui Qiancheng. It is invested, produced and distributed by a Thai company, directed by a director from Taiwan, China, and jointly produced by the art and costume team of mainland China."

One of the shadows said a line to Huai en about him being engaged...? I don't remember that in the novel at all... have I blocked it out? Was it a mistranslation in the subtitles..? Did he mean he was engaged in business...? Or are they going to add it as a subplot in the series? Because if so... I'd feel a certain kind of way about them using that trope. 😅 Any ideas?

- ""When did I agree to it?" That barbarian's princess. He hadn't even met her, let alone remembered her name." -
Seems apt I forgot about it too 😅 I just really hope they keep it irrelevant and don't try to make a plot point out of it.
