😂😂 that does happen with long drawn family dramas... they always have convoluted plotlines!
Six weddings. (Yicheng, Erqiang, Sanli, Qiqi, Weimin and Weimin's mom)
Five Qiao children.
Four trash girlfriends/wives. (Yicheng's ex-gf and wife, Erqiang's wife, Qiqi's wife)
Three trash mothers plus one insensitive step-mother. (Xiaolang, Yiding and Xiaomo's moms + Second Auntie)
Three children about to be born. (Xiaomo's, Sanli's, Qiqi's)
Three boys with terrible taste in women. (Yicheng, Erqiang, Qiqi)
Two heartless mother-in-laws. (Sanli and Xiaolang's)
Two trash fathers. (Xiaolang's and Yicheng's)
Two weird long-distance relationships. (Simei-Chenggang and Yicheng-Xiaolang)
Two weird huge-age-gap relationships. (Erqiang-Master Ma and Xiaomo-Director Chen)
Two aborted children. (Yicheng-Xiaolang's and Xiaomo's first kid)
One death. (Weimin's dad)
One affair. (Xiaomo-Director Chen)
One underage wedding. (Qiqi's)

I'd say Sanli is on her way to a happy ending... other than the mother in law they're happy as a couple. All they have to do is move away from her.

Let's do a round-up of everything that we've had to endure till now:

I keep giving Yiding chances because the two of them are so freaking ADORABLE together 😂 I hope they move out FAST.

Of course the son doesn't like Erqiang, but Erqiang's relationship is heading south anyway. I just can't believe his wife is having an ongoing affair!! I really thought she was a nice character 😑 Neither of them are giving their all to this marriage so I guess we're going to have to watch it go down the drain. Wonder what will happen to the child.

I want to smash my head through a wall with all that's happening to Qiqi. He shares his brother's terrible taste in women. And it's so weird to see him all terrified and traumatized while the girl looks like she's having the time of her life at the wedding. I think Qiqi isn't mentally okay either because he seems to have grown up knowing he was an outsider in his aunt's family. I can't believe how heartless the aunt is.... she's practically raised him since he was a baby but she dumps his problems into Yicheng's hands as soon as things get tough.

I am soooooo tired of all the drama and Simei's soldier boy looks sketchy. I wonder why he's back and why he didn't go to his own house. The writers are being as stingy as the dad with light, happy scenes! They are scattered so few and far-between!

btw it's fun discussing things with you all^^ I've never watched and discussed an on-air drama like this before 😅🥰

Usually it's the guys who don't care and the girls who take the beating but this is such a U-turn 🙄 Qiqi looks terrified and traumatized while that girl's just laughing everywhere. I legit thought she was going to eat him in Episode 20. Orders him around and then tries to eat him. And of course Qiqi is as spineless as his brothers.

Episode 23 hasn't been subbed yet on Viki and we get two subbed episodes a day, so I'll be able to answer you tomorrow^^

This drama should have been titled "What Happens When You Have the Worst, Most Terrible Taste in Women ft. The Qiao Boys"

Just finished Episode 21 and I am TIRED. The drama was better when it was dragging around. Now this is pure CHAOS with no relief. I would've gone crazy if it wasn't for that totally adorable Sanli-Yiding scene that made me melt and smile again.

My poor babies are going through so much garbage right now, it's so hard to watch!! I love how that Second Auntie dumps everything onto Yicheng as soon as things take a bad turn 😡 What is wrong with that woman? She raised him non-stop since he was a baby. Doesn't she have ANY love for him?
I've also noticed that there has not been one single mutual kiss of real love(I refuse to count in Yicheng-Xiaolang ones because I didn't enjoy those). It's almost always the trashy women jump-kissing the subdued, pushover men. We just got that one time Yiding surprise-kisses Sanli but that didn't go well, either.

Isn't Sanli the first parent?

I am shocked and exhausted. That girl was bad news from the beginning -_-

not the FL's mother in law, I meant the ML's mother's mother-in-law. I can't forget the sight of the mother-in-law and daughter-in-law hugging and leaving that trash of a husband/son on his own 😂

When the word "marriage" comes up, I have to think of the drama "Marriage, Not Dating." That one REALLY explored dating and marriage. We start out with a contract relationship of a woman crazy about getting married and a guy who doesn't care and end up with a complete switch in their views. I loved how they explored a variety of issues, including the way things turned out with the ML's lousy cheating father. It was so nice to see a good mother-in-law for once, who understood her daughter-in-law's pain and took her side against her own son. Of course, there are not-so-good mom-in-laws, too, but the good one stood out.

There's also the second-chance drama genre with 18 Again, Familiar Wife, Go Back Couple and Emergency Couple trying to navigate the various pitfalls, highs and lows of marriage. 18 Again stands out for beautiful relationships of all kinds.

And then I have to include Flower of Evil, because that one was soooo good. The FL was one of the strongest I have ever seen.

Okay, I calmed down after that shocker and now I'm melting over Sanli and Yiding they are PRECIOUS 🥰🥰 Glad to see Yiding focus only on Sanli when both his mom and Sanli were in the hospital. He's giving me hope... that he's a good guy who's just been under his mom's thumb for too long
I just wish they'd move out faster because that mom is a WITCH.

WHAT IS WRONG WITH THIS PACING??? Sometimes it's so slow and boring and then suddenly they drop complete BOMBSHELLS on my head and heart! Sanli is pregnant? WHAT THE HECK? WHEN DID THAT HAPPEN?! I AM NOT READY TO BE A GRANDMA! And to think we almost lost the child I AM FREAKING OUT! Yiding wth bro be a better husband, please!

I wouldn't be so frustrated if she had aborted the kid after at least letting him know. Even a "I'm NOT HAVING THE BABY! I'M GOING TO THE HOSPITAL!" *slams door, runs away* would have been better. Anyway, we're all used to her screaming and getting her way.
That kid might be inside her body, but half it's DNA is Yicheng's. It's not his fault that he isn't the pregnant one.

Forget being mentally ready to be a mom, she wasn't mentally ready to be a wife, either.

Have you tried watching Go Ahead or Reply 1988? They have similar genres and nostalgic, heartwarming family themes. Go Ahead is gold.

I think Sanli didn't want to bother Yicheng because everyone knows he's going through a rough patch with Xiaolang and everyone is treading on thin ice rn. I still can't understand why they're so attached to their good-for-nothing parents -_- I'm just hoping Yiding will grow a spine soon. And yeah, I was surprised when Sanli talked about guardians. She obviously regards him as a guardian(we see that when she tells Simei how lucky they are to have a Big Brother guardian like him who raised them and then tells Yiding that she feels they all rely on Yicheng too much.)

But you're right. Every character in this drama seems to make their decision first, cause a ruckus, and then wait for the chaos to die down before starting up something else. All the characters are incredibly flawed, and that's why I feel like Sanli-Yiding are the least problematic. I'm trying to look on the bright side.

I personally would like to see more of Yicheng's friend, because I really like him and he's my last hope. I know cdramas like to drag around for a while before picking up the pace and straightening everyone out, so I'm waiting for something like that to happen. And I really like the nostalgic cinematography and OST, and I've gotten very attached to the characters so I'm going to hang on 😅

That one scene where the family is cleaning up the broken house... I felt like I could finally breathe. If you notice, none of the toxic members are present. It's just Yicheng, Erqiang, Sanli, Yiding, and Simei. Though the scene was short, I loved watching them laugh and play for that little time.
