lol I disagree strongly. Every time his aunt encounters problems with him, she dumps all the responsibility on Yicheng. She's raised him since he was a baby but doesn't even seem to love him.
Only his older cousin has a good relationship with him and treats him like his son.

I love this drama mainly because it's so easy to watch and the comedic timing and banter among characters is really, really good. I love the 24/7-annoyed-at-the-world-in-general-but-a-big-fluffy-marshmallow detective 😂 And the bromance is so on point!

Of course I would find it boring if I came for mystery or crime-solving, but the drama so obviously does not take itself seriously at all. Just look at the drama's poster— BRIGHT YELLOW is NOT used for a crime/mystery thriller! From the very first episode, the writers let you know thathe entire thing is made for comedy. The characters will be pretty stupid, that's the whole point. Dialogues are good with no unnecessary melodrama. I love that most of the comedy is done WITHOUT embarrassing, hurting or lowering the dignity of the characters. I nearly died laughing in Episode 6, that one was GOOD.

None of the characters are getting on my nerves, which is another plus point. I'm watching a very angsty drama at the same time, so I love how light and fun this is. I find myself waiting for the cliches and enjoying their execution thoroughly. The editing is also so much fun!

Sanli putting MIL in her place was SO SATISFYING! 😂 I had a big smile on my face as I watched her, she's definitely not my favorite for no reason. I love that she isn't a pushover and knows when to put up a fight.

And other things are going just GREAT. Soldier Boy is verrrry sketchy and I've seen him express even a little concern for her exactly ONCE. But I love Simei so much I don't want her to go through anything bad 😥
And aren't we all glad even the next generation isn't spared angst? I wonder just how traumatized that Master Ma's son must be. Abusive father, mother on the run, and now he had to see that crazy showdown. I cannot ship this. And just for the record, Xiaomo is the biggest hypocrite I have ever seen in my entire life. I want Master Ma to be happy, but Erqiang and Xiaomo both are in the wrong. There's nothing else I can say. An 8-year age gap is a lot and that kid is old enough to be in middle/high school. They're just in two very different stages of life.

Maybe it was made for me, a fluffy romance lover who watched it solely for LJG and then had a complete thrill of a ride... I loved how the writer explored the relationship.

I'm also a little surprised at the amount of hate DOTS is getting in this comment section. I've watched it twice, and though some situations are unbelievable, it still was a good, funny, romantic watch.
Maybe it's because DOTS was one of my first dramas... I enjoyed it thoroughly and fell head over heels for Song Joong Ki

I thought everybody knows Because this is My First Life! Every list and person I turned to for reccs seemed to recommend that one to me but I dropped it after a few eps.

I also agree. The drama earned points for me only with the OST and cinematography. I dropped it after Ep 7 because there's only so much you can endure just for good cinematography.

i was out the moment the drama over-hyped the ML... all I remember from that drama was that everyone looked like porcelain and the storyline was boring and then I dropped it halfway.

There are lots of people who would disagree with you on IOTNBO and I'm one of them. I honestly think IOTNBO and Love O2O are way too overrated. Dropped both because they became so boring/annoying.
And Secretary Kim wasn't the best office drama I've seen. Yes, it's a classic, but I still think it's overrated. This is just my opinion :)
