This is true. I don't think she has realised that she is also playing a part rather than choosing her own narrative. However she is dedicated to her family and sect so that is her driving force. She was also raised to put others above herself. Maybe it is why she struggles so hard to accept TTJ's love. And then there is also the fear controlling her choices

I think what she did mattered. At least he got to know what it feels like to be loved, protected and trusted. It helped him live a life that wasn’t so cruel to him. Today he even hesitated to succumb to the DG because his shifu still trusted him. He still has room to decide his own fate
