I have this same problem. If someone wants to watch cartoons they should go watch them. It's so annoying to see humans act like that. I'm unable to relate to such acting and it ruins the experience. I'm sure these actors can act like normal people but maybe this is what japanese viewers like to see.

The writer thought that not showing the wife's scenes will make us forget her just like the ML and his entire family did. It's impossible that he didn't have a single happy memory with her to go to.
