Even now in some regions it do happen. In our neighbouring state there was a custom of marrying your own uncle and some ignorant people still do it. These customs are done mainly due to the huge problems caused due to dowry. Many women had been killed or have committed suicide due to the problems arise due to not enough dowry. So when you marry your daughter to your brother's family, the poor parents can atleast make sure that their daughter won't die.

Well everyone have different views, the moment you found creepy (sweet talk) was the moment that I found most exciting and sweet in their relation.
