same thoughts! though wei yan's actions of putting the blame on his ex-comrade, wei qilin and later trying to wipe out his family is an enigma to me by his justification of trying to preserve xie zheng's and his' uncle-and-nephew bond because xie zheng and changyu at that point weren't lovers yet. I think I've missed some facts as to what pushed him into doing this as well as orchestrating xie zheng's assassination in the first episodes and later, in ep 40, saying it was qi min who misled xie zheng.
also, while I do applaud wei yan for playing the cards of what the circumstances presented him, I just don't understand that he's also one of the 'collateral damage' of the late emperor's plot, then further pins the blame on his most trusted subordinate. was it just for everything to come to an end and he needed a scapegoat? is putting the blame on the late tyrant out of proportion, especially for the situation of Great Yin then, and would further destabilize the nation and could invite more intruders, esp the people of Baijue, into the border? but he also just staged a coup, no?
on that note, I require myself to rewatch this (not a task but a need atp & it wouldn't taxing at all)

haven't read the novel but in the novel they say she's a transmigrator but if you'll reach the end of the drama, this info from the novel isn't that explicitly told but implied & I think they did well in that part since it'll be like a whiplash to the drama's plot.
