i’m on eps 10 and a bit struggling to continue, please tell me in which ep things will become more interesting?
On Dashing Youth Sep 7, 2024
i’m glad i picked this up after The Blood of Youth. at first, Dashing Youth didn’t catch my interest in the first few episodes (unlike The Blood of Youth), because i couldn’t tune in with the characters. Baili Dongjun seemed a little bit theatrical for me, and i got a feeling that i know he was acting. but later on, i found that Neo has fully immersed with his character, and throughout the drama his character’s development was really good and consistent. what surprised me the most is He Yu. wow, this man can really act. all of his scenes were my favorite, especially the last ones. i rarely cried during the painful scenes when i watched angsty dramas, and it’s been a long time since i cried this much, but i couldn’t stop crying when i watched him in the last episode. this man’s acting was amazing it hurts. the only thing that i disliked the most was how an actress that play Yi Wenjun’s character simply couldn’t keep up with his acting. god, i know she was trying but her acting was horrible. her painful scenes when she was about to lose and finally lost him were not believable. i felt so satisfied when Baili Dongjun blamed her for her choices. things wouldn’t be this bad if she was strong enough, if she really knew what she wanted, if she made up her mind earlier. overall, Dashing Youth was an amazing watch, and i do recommend people to watch The Blood of Youth first before this so when you finally watch this, it will make your experience of watching better.

up until episode 20, everything had been really good. but unfortunately they started going downhill from eps 21… they shouldn’t cut the fighting scenes 😭 this is wuxia drama after all! at first i didn’t understand why people who already watched this said that they cut so many fighting scenes, now i know.

actually, this drama has different approach with The Blood of Youth in terms of dialogue, cinematography, CGI, and comedic timing. i wanted to focus with the main leads but they didn’t give them a proper screentime for the fighting scenes.

edited: i just finished this and realized that they only cut the fighting scenes around eps 21-25, and later on i have no complaint with the editing. the last 10 episodes were so good and the story got more interesting towards the end. the last 2 episodes were phenomenal, i bawled my eyes out. i loved everything in it.

i’m glad i picked this up. i wanted to watch Dashing Youth but it has mix reviews, so i decided to watch The Blood of Youth first due to the higher rating. wow, this drama blew my mind!

i’ve watched so many wuxia dramas and the fighting scenes in this one were top tier, probably the best one. no wonder it was a hit during the airing time.

i heard they’ll make a second season with the same cast? is it confirmed?

Do you know anywhere that has good English subtitles? WeTV subtitles were pretty bad
it’s only available on WeTV and i don’t know any website/illegal platforms who have a better subs. imo WeTV has a decent sub, have you tried the first eps?

Title You Are My Secret Spoiler
True unless you only watch the second lead couple 😅 (rhao/zhao)… they have a flirty back and forth.
omg you know what i mean right? 😂 the first and second couple were amazing, but the third one basically felt like a filler imo. i didn’t enjoy their interactions and they barely had chemistry.

Actually, you should. FITYMI is one of my favs and there are barely any shows that can match up. While this one…
i already watched both actually 😅 both were well written stories. i just couldn’t enjoy the third couple (Qi Yu and Ling Wel) because i still remember Dai Yun Fan’s character in FITYMI and i don’t like his character there at all. that’s why i thought i shouldn’t watch this right after FITYMi.

Do it Do it I love both....and the chemistry!
actually i already watched both but i couldn’t enjoy YAMS that much due to the third couple. i have no problem with the first and second couple and overally i enjoyed both stories.

why just whyyyyyy did they have to dub Ding Yuxi's voice???? I don't really mind with the others, but Ding Yuxi…
i do feel sorry too that they dubbed his voice because he usually dubbed himself and i’m not used to the change of his voice now, but at least this one aired this year rather than next year or so.

So iyo, is the problem with the direction, or the promotion.... because those are two separate problems.I feel…
let me correct it then, i do think this drama has an issue regarding the direction and the promotion.

iqiyi used to promote their dramas before the airing; like they made variety shows beforehand, the cast attending variety show, fans screening, conference, public display, reservation opened during the filming, etc. but in this one, they lack of everything; even the time slot. like this drama was airing during midnight in mainland. i saw a lot of people in weibo were confused with that.

i get your point and i also believe if the drama is doing good, they’ll promote the drama more. but my issue is iqiyi has been doing this lack of promotion for their dramas for so long. for example, My Journey to You was doing so well in mainland, but iqiyi even didn’t promote this drama well even after the airing.

they literally have all the eye-candy casts, and the director is from The Story of Yanxi Palace… but directing in this one feels a lot like from an unexperienced director, they simply couldn’t give us a decent drama and wasted a lot of potential. i mean, it’s Jing Tian and Zhang Linghe! and they finished filming in 2023…

another thing why i hate Iqiyi-based drama, they seem to have no promotional projects for their dramas. they kept doing so for their 2024 dramas. some examples are like Follow Your Heart, Sword and Fairy 4… and now this.

it’s been a while since i binge-watched 30+ eps of cdrama. i was hesitated to watch this because Wei Zheming’s dramas are kinda hit and miss for me. but i’m glad i tried this and it hooked me from the first eps.

one thing that i liked the most is the relationship between all the characters. they made me invested with their stories and personalities.

i also loved that the second couple really took their time to be together and development of their relationship was beautiful and authentic.

honestly i was surprised that this drama was very generous in kissing department.. like i wondered how they passed the censorship since so many dramas out there tend to cut the kissing scenes to the minimum 😂
