Mei ZhuYu is such a straightforward emotionless Taoist that Xu Kai himself said he will never play such emotionless character again. He’s played cold characters who are not emotional but they have more personality and attitudes. Mei Zhu Yue has a bland personality. But still Xu Kai showed his inner struggle snd passion. I think it was the combination of the type of character, the story, and the story didn’t revolve around his character, it was the way the director chose to present this story, it didn’t allow his character to develop enough but still by the end of the drama, his character did shine because of the gripping scenes he gave.

Don’t take MDL ratings literally because it’s judged and manipulated by MDL to a certain degree, and MDL people have their favorite actors they give favorable treatment and actors they dislike they give unfavorable treatment.

Look at the MDL pictures. You can see the differences.

If a drama is coming, it should be FI.

He’s never had a year without a drama airing.

One reason I’m glad Xu Kai won’t attend Dec 21 2025 Tencent Starlight Awards is because they’re heavily promoting Mo Li, starring Bai Lu and directed by a high profile director. Xu Kai has not attended the same events as her except for this year’s Chinese New Year national TV program, a big honor for both. He doesn’t need to give more publicity as it will not benefit him!

I thought it was interesting Linmon is producing a new drama right on the campus of Xu Kai's college he once attended for less than a year because his family had no money to support him any longer. The lead is Winwin. It’s a short drama called Sunshine through the rain.

Chinese people usually look at 5 to 10 years younger than they really are even as they age compared to other cultures.

Xu Kai yet he still cut through just being himself he has big appeal and that’s why they chip away at his reputation over the years to try to bring him down.

His achievement in 2024 was really great. He was ranked #4 most views of all Chinese actors even beating Yang Zi who had FP. She came in at #5. The top3 were older veterans. Xu Kai is younger. Don’t believe it when people say he’s diminishing. He may be 30 but honestly he looks and acts more youthful than some of the 20 something actors. Xu Kai couldn’t wait to get to 30 because he wanted to try different roles. He didn’t want to do them until age appropriate. As far as I’m concern he’s got many more great years.
In 2025 he should have had 3 dramas airing. Despite people trying to destroy his career in 2025 probably because he was too successful in 2024, his drama MR did just fine. Same thing happened after WOL aired in late 2023. Someone was afraid his career was rising and spread malicious gossip. SOKP super hyped for a year air drop unannounced day after WOL. Then very popular AJTL soon followed yet WOL with no hype did just fine. Don’t believe it when people say Xu Kai is losing it. Every year he’s had at least one popular drama. Just because they’re not super hyped doesn’t mean he’s not doing well. He gets awards too just not the popularity ones. He’s a rare celebrity not out to be the most popular. I wonder how much it costs actors to market themselves 24x7. I sometimes wonder aren’t they overexposed and then what happens if expectations are not met when you’re held to the pedestal.

I visited other actors page and fans only praise the actor but why is it on Xu Kai’s page there are question whether he’s good enough.

But MR was limited to international audience. Disney didn’t even air it until it was over and same with Viki.

It’s a super common term on Douban, the translation is “greasy.” The term is applied to any kind of role. It can simply mean over acting like forcing expressions to show emotions.

With respect to CEO roles "greasy" means cringey, sleazy, try-hard. When domineering characters feel forced, exaggerated, or tacky, awkward instead of charismatic.

But there is demand for cringey too.

The kissing is fake anyway. They don’t actually really kiss. There are techniques to make it look like real kissing. The actors decide how far they go with the kissing but I noticed in many dramas they kiss each other below the lips so there is no exchange of saliva and the director can edit it to look like they’re really kissing. They just merely plant their lips below each other’s lips. However they still have to get very close to each other but I doubt they feel romantic or intimate with each other with so many people watching and trying to get the technique correct so the director can do his thing with it.

Wait for her performance and then you will see her impact on screen. She’s a rising star. This is only her third drama and second drama she leads. She brings a fresh style of acting to Chinese dramas.

They can’t because he was not. If they do it won’t hold up. Xu Kai played CEO his own way not typical greasy version. Xu Kai said he even tells the director if he thinks lines are too greasy. Some feel he redefined the CEO role. When you have grandmothers loving his CEO character that says a lot about his craft.

He’s got the most dramas. That makes him the hardest worker. But endorsements are more profitable than dramas. I have no idea how that stacks up for him. It’s remarkable to me a low key actor like him. I bet his fan base is wide spectrum, another factor why he stays popular and in demand. Professionals in the industry spoke up for Xu Kai in August saying he’s well respected in the industry and has tons of projects to choose from.
