(in novel) Mei Zhuyu, a reclusive, described as "a man of few words," is only 22 yrs old and I think Xu Kai has no problem playing a young character. Mei Si his cousin is 17 yrs old. Lady Wu is 26 yrs old, way pass the betrothal age of 15 to 19. Liu Tai Zhen (Snake Lord) is only 1 yr apart from Wu Zhen (Cat Lord). The actress playing Snake Lord, this is her first drama! her debut, and she's only 22 in real life.

those two were not enemies in the novel but quite feisty with each other

or the moles (Xu Kai) and lines on their raw faces. if the women are cakey, I think it aligns to Tang dynasty style

the book has zero plots. I think they just wanted to take the unique story with its weird characters, the setting, and create a drama series

if you mean that we can see the raw faces, I think that is intentional, imo. I can tell the first minute, this director is a perfectionist. People may not like his style, but I doubt they're mistakes.
