I actually felt HT in the novel was desperate too but more restraint. He even pushed his way into her room and wanted to get back together. The novel doesn't go into HT's feelings. The drama presents his feelings so the audience can connect with him. HT in the novel had to be quite miserable during the break up period.

Because in the novel, he does all the chasing and reconciliation. When she said she wants to break up, he locks the door and says no. Twice, he asked to get back together, and she said no. He even forced his way into her room and started to make out with her and she said no. Eventually, his words must have sunk in and she says she's willing to talk to him but then she got kidnap.

I don't think she left. Eventually, she comes back to the company in some capacity.

This drama showcases the business aspects very well. The merger, the loss of morale, etc.
JX was a very good people manager. She built a great team. She was a good leader. People will follow her if she leaves. Remember HT told Grandpa "She has merits I don't have."

HT made verbal promise to her that he would not mess with XingChen and let her run it. When he shook hands on that promise, he already knew Hanhai is under his control. Once Hanhai is made public, there is no way he can leave XingChen alone when the two companies have overlaps. Because he shook hands on that, I feel he did mislead her. She would never have agreed to cooperate with him if he messes with XingChen. That was the reason she turned down Han Yuan. However, she was also at a dead-end and couldn't get any financing. Like HT said, you have no capital.
HT is too ruthless. That's what scared JX away. When JX is confused or scared, she goes home where she feels safe.
I really believe that HT when he shook hands on that promise felt he would find a way to leave XingChen alone. But things didn't turn out the way he hoped. JX definition of love is that he can give up Dongyang for her. That's not how he sees love. I think Dongyang is as important to him as JX is.

Watching the meeting, it is rather sad that JX is no longer CEO of her own company, but such is the reality of startups.
