Has years past by in the drama? I think she was 18/19 at the start of the drama, and then later episodes I thought I heard she's 22? but it doesn't feel like years went by, maybe a year went by? even though it's always snowing

well, the drama also has make-believe or fairytale elements in a historical setting, making her small frame stronger than men, she can threaten and beat up any man, even someone who commands an army, and she can lift those two baskets of rocks up the mountain 4x the strength of any man, she can throw a person up the cliff with her bare hands, scale a building, run across rooftops, jump down from buildings, that's what you normally see in a fantasy, animation or cartoon, that kind of super powers, but other than that, she's normal. those elements make the drama light-hearted and funny and entertaining and is what gives her character charm, but it also cannot take the story too serious, but then they turn to the dark side with the pyscho villains, so cruel and dark. There's this bizarre contrast of light and dark elements.

She has more screen time because the story is about her character.

you're right, 26K comments at this stage is phenomenal. At this rate, it will be at least 42k comments when the finale airs. I don't think there is any other drama with that many comments. This may go down as the most comments in MDL history.

FL lived a sheltered life in a small village and only knows how to butcher pigs. There must be a reason her parents did not teach her more. They had only just died at the beginning of the story when she's already 18 or older, so it's not like there was no time to teach her. Perhaps they felt she would be safer that way.

When he left her around episode 16 to go back to war, he had just recovered. Now she finds him again in episode 24, wounded once more, and she personally tends to him like in the earlier episodes. I think it is done intentionally to add romance scenes. Same with when he finds her hanging from a cliff, in that case, he tends to her injuries. Its's how directors create opportunities for romance.

I agree. China’s economy has slowed, and youth unemployment is high—currently around 16.5%. Also, the male lead in How Dare You, Ryan Cheng, came up through micro‑dramas. There’s another actor who has succeeded in both micro and long‑form work as well. Micro‑dramas are growing faster than long‑form overall. The director of the current massive hit Pursuit of Jade came from micro and short‑form dramas. So there’s a real overlap of talent across formats.

Wang Yi Zhe was also in A Journey to Love. It seems many of Yu Zheng's artists aren't getting much work. But I think Yu Zheng makes more money as a producer than collecting artists fees. The artists are just his tools. It's really interesting his two top artists are both on breaks before the contract expires.

He Feng Tian (they used to hang out together. I saw a clip Xu Kai called during HFT's livestream and asked he wanted to go skateboarding) and Gao Han (watches Xu Kai's cats) are his buddies.

In 2024, Xu Kai gave a shout out to Yang Mi and Wu Jin Yan's dramas as they were set to premier. That was a crucial year for them, a comeback year, and it truly was for Wu Jin Yan, and she nailed it. Wu Jin Yan was very kind and helpful to Xu Kai when he first started out and literally didn't know anything (but he learned fast) since she'd been in the industry for 5 yrs already. He obviously hasn't forgotten it.

My point is they can't put it to good use in this character. He has another drama coming out this year, maybe it'll show up in that character.

This drama has a lot of Disney‑animation‑style comedy, especially in how the female lead acts, but it also mixes in some darker, more psychological moments. Sometimes it feels like you’re watching two completely different shows at once. The setting looks historical, but the romance feels very modern, almost like a contemporary relationship dropped into a period world.

Ding Yu Xi has the same villain gaze.

Xu Kai is often said to have an accent in Mandarin. People say it's harder to completely lose a Cantonese accent when speaking standard Mandarin (Putonghua) than it is when switching from other Mandarin dialects to standard Mandarin. Cantonese is essentially a different language from Mandarin, after all. But he's been working on it so look forward to hearing him use his own voice in a costume drama.

I'm guessing Xu Kai's parents may have their own Mandarin dialect too, so Xu Kai has a mix of that and the Cantonese accent he grew up with. If he'd not drop out of college, he perhaps would have improved his standard Mandarin.
