I thought so at first too but like.. She asked him to call her mother but he never did - whether to her face nor when talking about her with someone else. If he really looked at her as the mom he never had he would have no problem calling her mom, no?
Besides the 14 year old ahyeon is her daughter whom he also knows but he doesn't call her sister or gets called brother, they don't view each other as siblings which they would be if they're both "adopted" by sohui / if he viewed her as mom he would view ahyeon as sister (although she probably never adopted him officially since she didn't even "buy" him)

But at the end of the day it's just me and you having different opinions due to different interpretations of a fictional series and that's okay! ☺️

I complete agree with what you wrote, that's exactly how I felt as well, I do think many people expected this as well maybe that's why the writers didn't put it :/ his character feels a bit wasted since he kept being a villain til he end

"funny" how most of us thought that JH will have a redeem arc but in the end it never happened, not even when he was about to kill his own "niece" (even though they aren't related ofc) maybe the writers thought that's exactly what people expect and that's why they didnt do it? Idk

What bothers me is JH's character itself, he has absolutely no reason to be so loyal to sehui (?) in the first place.. Like he clearly isn't afraid to die (already saw in the first few episodes how he fights against the main character multiple times even while she had weapons. In the last ep he keeps protecting sehui until he gets shot) and he is AWARE that she could kill him without hesitation or guilt, he said it himself. He had few opportunities with her alone to just kill her, so why didn't he?

"because she manipulated him and he looked at her as a mom" bullsht- obviously he was manipulated by her to some extent but as already mentioned he knew that for her he is basically just a tool and he clearly refused to call her mom even when she asked him to do so, so I highly doubt he looked at her as family.

So the only theory I have left is unfortunately That JH has a crush on sohui and that's why he is loyal to her til the end, some people put their love above themselves and turn "blind" even if their crush in this case is a walking red flag-

Like no idea how long he has worked for her but him and ahyeon (?) seemed somewhat close (asking each other if they already ate is a sign for caring for each other in Korea, she also held his hand affectionately and told him to not get hurt) but clearly he didn't even care that sohui wanted ahyeon to get pregnant at such a young age, like not even considering talking to her or sohui about it. When he set the fire too, didn't care ultimately if it wouldn't have been for the ahjussi then ahyeon would had died that day too.

Besides at the end there are already so much police officers everywhere, they wouldn't have shot either if he didn't shoot like sure she obviously would have went to jail but again.. What does he gain out of It to try protect her so much even with his own life? She clearly didn't treat him good either but I will say it again; he probably developed a crush on her at some point

Me too honestly. I think in the first ep chi Cheng let's his snake fight with his rivals snake, might come off a bit brutal (I skipped it)

Then they fed chengs snake 2x so far with a dead mouse

And If I saw it right then chi Cheng catched / killed a small living bird (I skipped again but I think that's what happened)

That's all I remember from the top of my head - hopefully it helps you!!

Aside from that nothing else happened so far but those mentioned scenes didn't last long at max a minute. Yueyue (the ex gf) might try to hurt a snake in the future if I understood right so be aware that there might be more such scenes in upcoming eps. As mentioned I hate animal abuse / deaths as well so I skip whenever I can, aside from those I recommend this drama!
